Primary Function & Position Overview:

The SFA Aide will be responsible for assisting the Student and Family Affairs team in an administrative capacity to support a safe, structured, and positive school environment that supports student learning and character development.  SFA Aides also provide non-academic support for teachers. SFA Aides report to the Director of Student and Family Affairs of their respective campus.

Duties & Responsibilities

    • Supervising student arrival and dismissalSupervising scholars during all sessions of lunch and recess
    • Assisting teachers during assigned elementary or middle school classes to support student engagement
    • Assisting with operational systems and tasks
    • Implementing school-wide incentive program
    • Planning and executing events to engage the school community, i.e. field trips, conference nights, block parties
    • Canvassing the neighborhood to drive student enrollment
    • Observing and mentoring students throughout the day  to ensure student compliance with school safety rules and effectively communicating with teachers and school administrators about student behavior
    • Assisting administrative and teaching staff with tasks that include but are not limited to:
    • Maintaining storage and supply areas designated for the Student and Family Affairs team, including school uniforms
    • Assisting with unpacking/checking of materials
    • Maintaining student files
    • Family communication
    • Creating and distributing flyers and communication for school events and initiatives
    • Updating display boards throughout the building
    • Making copies and distributing materials to classes or students
    • Running storage room errands and school errands, as needed
    • Support after-school and family events on evenings and weekends, as assigned by the DSFA when needed 

Qualifications

    • Demonstrated success with working with youth in a structured environment such as an afterschool program, summer camp, or school environment
    • Superior communication and customer service skills
    • An ability to work collaboratively
    • A strong desire to continuously improve job performance 
    • A commitment to single-gender education
    • A dedication to helping children grow and learn in an innovative educational setting
    • A passion for educational equity for students from all backgrounds
    • A commitment to implementing restorative practices in schools; knowledge of restorative justice practices a plus
    • Proficiency in creating visually appealing presentations, flyers, posters, and other marketing materials
    • Fluency in Spanish is preferred
    • Experience working in schools or youth/family-serving organizations in the Bronx preferred
    • A Bachelor's Degree completed or in progress
