Electrical Engineer II
Location: Richmond, VA (Hybrid/Remote Options Available)
Job Type: Contract to Hire 
Salary: $80,000 – $120,000

The Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Electrical Engineer II to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will support electrical design initiatives that ensure high-quality, reliable, and safe power distribution equipment. The ideal candidate is resourceful, dynamic, and ready to contribute both technically and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

    • Perform product-level electrical design, including component selection, thermal system design, mechanical packaging support, and interconnection hardware design.
    • Apply knowledge in analog and digital circuitry, magnetics, and thermals.
    • Create engineering and technical design specifications for power protection systems.
    • Design switchboard power and control circuits.
    • Develop and manage design documentation such as bills of materials (BOMs) and schematics.
    • Support integration of third-party devices into power distribution equipment.
    • Contribute to manufacturing documentation, test procedures, and technical reports.
    • Provide sustaining engineering support for both new and legacy systems.
    • Perform hands-on troubleshooting of systems and subsystems.
    • Support product safety certifications with NRTL partners (UL, CSA, IEC standards).

Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
    • 2+ years of electrical design and development experience.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE).
    • Experience designing UL 891 Switchboards.
    • Knowledge of ECNs, BOMs, documentation systems, AutoCAD, and ERP systems.
    • Proficiency with electrical engineering tools (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, etc.).
    • Experience in three-phase and electrical power systems.
    • Strong skills in writing, documentation, and communication.
    • Strong laboratory and problem-solving skills.
    • Experience with UL, CSA, IEC electrical safety and EMC requirements for power systems.
    • Experience with environmental, reliability, and safety requirements for commercial and industrial applications.
