Location: Newport News, VA
Payrate: $25–$30/hour (based on relevant experience; higher pay considered for strong qualifications)
1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Position Summary

We’re seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician with a minimum of 5 years of experience in equipment maintenance—preferably in manufacturing or heavy machinery. This role involves troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining various types of production and facility equipment to ensure consistent and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities

    • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems on equipment such as CNC lasers, turret punch presses, panel benders, welding machines, ovens, and powder coating systems.
    • Install, relocate, and maintain machinery and facility systems including air compressors and dust collection units.
    • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
    • Use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and welding/fabrication tools.
    • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, lubrication, and minor plumbing/welding tasks.
    • Maintain accurate records, manage parts inventory, and adhere to safety protocols (e.g., Lockout/Tagout).
    • Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to coordinate repairs and source materials.

Requirements

    • Minimum 5 years’ maintenance experience, ideally in a manufacturing or heavy machinery setting
    • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical schematics
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
    • Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments
    • Basic understanding of math, including geometry and trigonometry
    • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, standing/bending for extended periods
    • Strong communication and organizational skills
    • Experience managing parts room and maintenance inventory

Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working with CNC fabrication equipment
    • Knowledge of PLC systems and controls
    • Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality Standards
    • Experience in process improvement initiatives
