You will be responsible for the next generation of tools supporting monitoring & alerting, incident response, and orchestration at Quantcast. This extends from off-the-shelf tools such as Veneur, Prometheus, and Pagerduty, to custom application and pipeline orchestration environments and large Kubernetes installations.

As a Staff Engineer on the team, you will have the opportunity to:

    • Solve complex technical and/or business problems that are both sizable and ambiguous, defining the solution strategy and manage the day-to-day tactical execution of that strategy.
    • Design systems that are elegant and simple, reducing technical debt while providing a strong foundation for future development.
    • Actively mentor more junior engineers, participate in cross-team design, and ensure operational excellence.
    • As a Software Engineer with a focus on Platform Reliability, you care about the health and maintainability of our systems and the velocity of the engineering organization. You write code, architect, and design systems to improve automation throughout our technology stack.

Responsibilities:

    • Ability to work on several large projects with multiple dependencies across teams.
    • Mentor and develop the members of your team from a technical perspective.
    • Design and implement a secure and reliable logging and monitoring infrastructure using modern, scalable tools.
    • Develop custom dashboards, alerts, and data visualizations to provide real-time insights into our systems' health and performance.
    • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify areas for improvement in our systems and processes.
    • Monitor system performance, diagnose problems, and implement solutions.
    • Keep up-to-date with the latest technologies and best practices in observability tools as well as container orchestration solutions.

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a minimum of 5+ years experience developing and working on highly scalable infrastructure as a Software Engineer, Systems Engineer, or Site Reliability Engineer.
    • Hands-on experience with programming languages such as; Python, Shell Scripting, Go, or similar languages.
    • Strong knowledge of OpenTelemetry and its implementation in various programming languages.
    • Experience with Elasticsearch and Grafana, including building dashboards, creating alerts, and data visualizations.
    • Experience with Veneur, Fluentd, and Kubernetes is preferred.
    • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure (AWS preferred).
The expected base salary range for this position is $191,300 to $258,700.
