The Role:
We are looking for a materials scientist to improve our solid state materials lamination process. Our ideal team member is self-motivated, can deliver against tight development schedules, has good interpersonal skills, can work independently as well as in teams and enjoys working on challenging and impactful projects.
In this role, you will:
Characterize physical properties of solid state materials and understand their physical limitations
Define physical and electrochemical specifications for the materials of interest, understand process space that is compatible
Improve the lamination process to minimizes the damage to the materials while maintain good performance
Identify scalable approaches to achieve the performance with good repeatability
Introduce and qualify new processes into our baseline with quantifiable metrics that can be used for statistical process control
Perform under pressure in fast paced environment

Minimum Requirements:
You have a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science (or a related field) with 2 years industry experience or a MS degree
You love working closely with a team in an energizing and fast paced environment
You share our real passion for our mission
Good interpersonal and communication skills allow you to effectively deliver in a R&D environment
You are capable of working independently and within a team
You love to learn new techniques and perfect existing techniques
Knowledge of safe laboratory practices, especially in handling chemicals
Ability to perform work in a glovebox, dry room or fume hood
Clear written and verbal skills to logically communicate ideas and thought processes

Experience in the any of the following areas are a definite plus:
You have a MS degree and 1 year of industry experience in battery research
Working knowledge of ceramic materials mechanical properties, tribology
You are familiar with electrochemistry and interface characterizations
You have hands on experience in bulk and surface analysis techniques: XPS, XRD, XRF, Raman, FTIR, DMA, mechanical testing, thermal analysis
You are disciplined in your approach and rely on the application of statistical methods for experiment planning, data analysis, and process control; familiarity with JMP
