QuantumScape is located in San Jose, California working on new energy storage technology to allow electric vehicles to outperform internal combustion cars. Our leap in energy density and charge rate is enabled by a different chemistry and cell architecture which also benefits safety. Our quick progress originates with a state of the art facility, highly automated data collection and analysis, an outstanding team, and a strong and clear set of values.
Do you want to learn about and work on this critical part of the future energy economy? As a member of the Cell Development team, you will develop cell prototypes, test platforms, and production processes to help put this technology on the road. We bridge Quantumscape's fundamental technological breakthroughs with a design for a commercial cell.

Responsibilities:
 
Devise and implement creative and practical improvements to existing device assemblies
Work on a team to design, engineer and produce next generation devices
Investigate gaps in existing processes and device performance using root cause analysis to inform future designs
Contribute to a larger, multi-functional team to develop scalable solutions for cell assembly processes
Collect and analyze electrical and mechanical data to characterize the performance and reliability of your designs
Communicate results with the broader team

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Detailed understanding of engineering fundamentals
Experience applying materials, chemistry and/or engineering knowledge to the development of real-world solutions
Familiarity with at least one scripting language (e.g. Python, R, Matlab, JMP, or similar) or at least one type of engineering software (e.g., Inventor, CAD, etc.)
Expertise in or some understanding of DC electrical testing, impedance spectroscopy, photography, microscopy and/or chemical characterization methods.
Experience with large datasets or a SQL database a plus
Capability of understanding and solving problems with technical depth, but also learning and adapting quickly
You respond to challenges with solutions
You are organized and follow through on your commitments
You love working closely with a team in an energizing environment
You have strong communication and interpersonal skills

Minimum Requirements:

A master’s or Ph.D. degree in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, electrical engineering or a related field OR a bachelor’s degree plus several years of employment in a similar field
One year or more of hands-on, independent laboratory experience in a R&D or industrial laboratory environment
You have experience using or designing safe laboratory practices.
