QuantumScape is an energy storage technology company, located in San Jose, California.
We are working on a fundamental disruption in the field of energy storage. We seek to change the paradigm in energy storage by developing a completely new class of electrical energy storage device. We are backed by top VC firms and our ground-breaking technology is based on work done by researchers at Stanford University.
We are looking for a materials scientist to develop and scale up our powder and coating processes for solid state materials. Our ideal team member is self-motivated, a quick learner, can deliver against tight development schedules, can adapt to a dynamic work environment and enjoys working on exciting and impactful projects. In this role, we will develop and scale-up processes for the next generation of battery technology!


Characterize physical properties of solid-state materials and understand their physical limitations
Develop processes for material synthesis that are aligned with the baseline performance metrics
Demonstrate a scalable approach to achieve the performance repeatably
Define specifications for the processes and materials of interest
Qualify and introduce scaled-up processes to our baseline process
Perform data analysis and develop control charts

Minimum Requirements:

You possess a Master's degree in Materials Science (or a related field) with proven experience with process/product development or a PhD degree in Materials Science
You love working on an energizing and ground breaking technology
You share our passion for our mission
You have good interpersonal and presentation skills
You are familiar with electrochemistry
You are well versed with safe laboratory practices, especially in handling chemicals
You are comfortable working in a glovebox, dry room or fume hood
You are motivated to learn new techniques and refine existing techniques

Nice to Haves:

PhD with experience in battery research
Good understanding of properties of ceramic materials
Familiarity with powder processing
Proficiency in JMP, Python for the application of statistical methods for experiment planning, data analysis, and process control

Physical Requirements:

May work with airtight isolation chambers and/or wear neoprene or vinyl gloves for 15-30% of the time.
May frequently reach above shoulder heights and below the waist.
May be required to use hand or power tools.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, lift, push and extend arms.
