About the Role:

In this exceptional leadership opportunity, you will lead Quizlet’s Data Science team to directly impact how the world learns. Data science and machine learning research from your team introduces new algorithms to Quizlet’s learning, content understanding, search/suggestion, and monetization areas. Core user and product analysis, KPI development, metrics innovation, and experimentation enable us to learn what works best for Quizlet learners and subscribers as we experiment with different ways of packaging and selling.

You will pursue these challenges as a data science thought leader and key executive partner in Quizlet’s Engineering organization. In addition to leading a world-class team, you will influence business and technical strategies to help us solidify Quizlet’s top spot consumer study tools and assignment help and continue our quest to revolutionize learning worldwide.

The preferred location for this role is San Francisco, CA; however, all U.S. Remote applicants are encouraged to apply.

In this role, you will:

    • Participate in Quizlet’s executive team: help set product and business strategy, represent learning science, data science and machine learning, initiate and debate key strategic topics and opportunities from your team’s work, and drive bold high-impact decisions
    • Inspire and lead your team to research and deliver strategic, innovative, learning science-backed and machine learning-based approaches to improve learning with Quizlet and the growth of our business
    • Lead strong partnerships with Quizlet’s product management, engineering, design, marketing, and content teams
    • Guide ongoing product decisions especially bringing confidence to long-term investments
    • Continuously help Quizlet improve understanding of our users in many global markets
    • Develop and evolve strategic roadmap for online learning capabilities and content understanding
    • Partner with product development teams to deliver actionable and significant insights on areas including users, growth and monetization
    • Grow and expand your expert team with an eye toward diverse and forward-pushing skills that span learning and cognitive science, machine learning, data science and analytics methods, data engineering, and experimentation
    • Instill an inclusive team environment that is innovative and collaborative

What you bring to the table:

    • A deep technical background in applied data science, spanning some or all of statistics, experimentation, machine learning, causal methods, optimization techniques, data engineering and architecture (applied to large data), and behavioral analytics
    • Skilled at operating in a cross-functional organization where your teams need to collaborate and integrate with other teams across several disciplines
    • Experience building and leading teams to drive science-backed consumer product growth with machine learning at Internet scale
    • Exceptional communication skills and are articulate with both technical and business partners; you create effective frameworks to aid the discussion of complicated topics, are an active listener, and naturally conscious of who needs to know what and proactively seek to share important context accordingly
    • Enthusiasm towards having a strategic impact at an executive level, including interacting with other leaders on complex issues and applying strong judgment and analysis toward important business decisions
    • Experience with the creation and evolution of company-critical KPIs 
    • Proactive and passionate about organizational topics including DEI and the growth & development of individual contributors & people leaders
    • Experience building and leading a data science organization of at least 20 members among multiple teams
