About Quizlet:

Inspired by our belief that anyone can learn anything and powered by our own curiosity, we build the smartest tools we can imagine to help students learn.

Quizlet is the popular, global learning platform and app that millions of students, teachers and everyday people use to study any subject imaginable for school, work or as part of their personal interests -- including two-thirds of high school students and half of all college students in the US. Combining cognitive science and machine learning, Quizlet guides students through adaptive study activities to confidently reach their learning goals. We’re on track to become the undisputed leader in user-generated learning content and engagement, at the scale of YouTube.

Valued at $1 billion, Quizlet has raised over $60 million in venture capital from investors including Icon Ventures, Union Square Ventures, General Atlantic, Costanoa Ventures, Owl Ventures, and Altos Ventures.

To serve our global community of learners, our teams tackle lofty technical challenges and design for use cases across cultures and languages. We work hard, act like owners, and collaborate every chance we get. We’re energized by the potential to power more learners through multiple approaches and various tools.

About the Team:

The Ads team is responsible for ensuring Quizlet can provide a free learning platform to users around the world.  We do this using Header Bidding, Google Ad Manager, and an increasing number of seamlessly integrated direct ad experiences.

Our current team is made up of talented full-stack engineers, with a culture for AB experimentation. We enjoy moving quickly, but methodically, to help Quizlet’s business grow as fast as possible. We are looking for someone with previous ads experience.

About the Role:

You will be involved in defining long term technical strategy while being a core contributor to the code base. The work done by the ads team is fast paced and relies heavily on running & analyzing AB experiments.  On an average day we are:

- Optimizing aspects of overall page performance that impact ads
- Conducting experiments with new Ads UX, request methods, 3rd party features, or backend improvements
- Working with Prebid.js, Amazon Publisher Services, and Google Publisher Tag to personalize our ad auctions
- Exploring new offerings such as video ads
- Designing the long term strategy of ads at Quizlet
- Sharing our best practices through technical blog posts, meet-ups, and conferences

In this role, you will:

    • Understand the needs of Quizlet’s ads business and, as a result, architect, build, and maintain an ad platform that delivers a holistic, data-driven solution to grow revenue
    • Recommend ways to optimize ad infrastructure and improve the quality of real-time signals being passed to programmatic buyers at bid time
    • Build user-facing ads experiences that integrate with the wider Quizlet product

What you bring to the table:

    • 5+ years of professional experience in software development
    • 2+ years of experience in advertising technology (preferably on the Publisher side) with demonstrated experience in Header Bidding (some/all of Prebid.js, Apstag, GPT/DFP/GAM)
    • Deep understanding of Javascript (React, TypeScript, and vanilla), browser APIs, and page speed performance
    • Experience leading projects from inception to completion
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Bonus points if you have:

    • Extensive knowledge of A/B testing and data analysis of results
    • Familiarity with distributed systems, ETLs, and modern cloud architectures in AWS/GCP/Azure

    • Employer-sponsored 401k plan with company match
    • Access to LinkedIn Learning and other resources to support professional growth
    • Paid Family Leave, FSA, HSA, Commuter benefits, Wellness benefits
