DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
As an organization, we place a substantial emphasis on maximizing player value through purposeful, long-term development. The Strength and Conditioning department is responsible for player evaluation, programming, innovation, and collaboration between all other departments and stakeholders to optimize on-field performance.
 
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Boston Red Sox are looking for Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches for the upcoming 2025 season. Coaches will assist in the implementation of the Boston Red Sox Strength and Conditioning, Baseball Sciences, Medical, and Nutrition programs.
 
This position will be based out of Fort Myers, Florida during Minor League Spring Training, then based out of an assigned minor-league affiliate for the duration of the competitive season. Assistant S&C Coaches will be notified of their affiliate assignments during Spring Training at the discretion of the organization. Our affiliates are located in Worcester, MA, Portland, ME, Greenville, SC, Salem, VA, and Fort Myers, FL. Employment will begin in February 2025 and run through September 2025. Travel to all away games is required. Occasional travel may be required to other Red Sox affiliates, staff events, and educational opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • The key responsibilities within each domain are outlined below. These descriptions are not comprehensive, and job duties may expand beyond the information outlined below.

    • Strength and Conditioning
    • Coach players though daily prep routines, dynamic warm-ups, lifting, speed, and conditioning sessions
    • Support the Red Sox movement screening process
    • Individualize & coach athletes through resistance training and corrective exercise programs
    • Baseball Sciences
    • Assist in athlete monitoring, data collection, and reporting processes
    • Review athlete data daily and provide relevant information to the affiliate staff
    • Send athlete transfer reports to other staff as necessary
    • Nutrition Support                
    • Assist with body composition data collection and input
    • Assist with nutrition initiatives including but not limited to supporting athlete goals, guiding and making individualized supplements for players
    • Assist with the delivery and modification of catering orders
    • Provide regular feedback to the Nutrition department regarding food quantity and quality as well as snack and supplement availability

    • In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the person in this position will be expected to:
    • Travel with the team to every game
    • Attend and participate in Spring Training
    • Support the communication efforts between the affiliate athletic trainers, the affiliate full-time strength and conditioning coach and the MiLB strength and conditioning coordinator
    • Assist in scheduling and reporting processes

    • Ability to prescribe targeted exercises to address the deficiencies of each individual player.
    • Ability to cultivate trust and player buy-in.
    • Keen understanding of when and how to offer feedback to elicit the desired adaptations.
    • Willingness and ability to use technology to maximize the effectiveness of programming.
    • Ability to comprehend data and provide feedback to players and stakeholders. 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in an Exercise Science related field required
    • CSCS certification (NSCA) required
    • First Aid/CPR certification required
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) required Spanish fluency is preferred
    • Master’s degree in an Exercise Science related field is preferred
    • Experience in professional or collegiate sports is preferred
    • Experience with diagnostic testing and athlete monitoring is preferred
    • Experience with corrective exercise assessment and prescription is preferred
    • The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, jump, run, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate with others.
    • The vision requirement includes the ability to review written and electronic materials in both digital and physical format.
    • The employee must be able to transfer and move items for departmental needs.
    • The employee must be able to adjust to changing work hours and locations as needed considering the strong focus on external communications and relationships.
