Redwood Credit Union is looking for a Mortgage Underwriter who will be responsible for reviewing all mortgage loan applications to ensure completeness and compliance with secondary and/or portfolio lending guidelines and policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Loan File Management
• Approve loans and make recommendations for loan approval up to established limits.
• Within department timelines, review loan files for accuracy, completeness and compliance.
• Review all denied loans for possible lending options to benefit the Member.
• Educate staff on changes to loan requirements.
• Identify cross sell opportunities that will benefit the Members and RCU.
• Ensure confidentiality and safeguard sensitive Member financial information.
• Recognize and evaluate the loan process and recommend changes that will help maintain maximum efficiency.
• Review and maintain all product guidelines to ensure accuracy with changes in the industry and changes in RCU loan policies.
• Audit first mortgage loan files to ensure completeness prior to funding.
• Develop operational and procedural changes necessary to address any issues or problems noted in quality control reports.

Special Projects and Other Functions
• Provide exceptional service to all Members, volunteers, employees and service providers.
• Compose and type letters, memos and reports for staff and Members as needed.
• Research and resolve Member or employee concerns as directed.
• Represent RCU in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
• Research and evaluate products that other institutions are offering and recommend those that will benefit the Members and RCU.
• Develop and organize training material to cross train mortgage lending staff on all aspects of underwriting.
• Provide general assistance in completing tasks and projects.
• Prepare loan reports as required.
• Cross train as necessary in order to provide backup in document drawing and funding.

Minimum Qualification: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • ·Knowledge and understanding of all mortgage loan products offered by RCU; we currently offer prime first mortgages, fixed seconds, and HELOC’s.
    • Knowledge of real estate principles, practices, rules, regulations, and sale practices.
    • Knowledge of investor guidelines and compliance requirements
    • Skill in the operation of personal computer with Intranet/Internet access and other office equipment.
    • Skill in the use of Internet-based loan origination software.
    • Skill in the use of Fannie Mae Desktop Underwriter.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of people.
    • Ability to act independently and confidentially, using discretion and tact.
    • Ability to analyze situations and recommend workable solutions.
    • Ability to coordinate a variety of activities simultaneously and prioritize work.

Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, walk, twist, and turn.
    • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
    • Ability to use a computer keyboard and calculator.
    • Work environment is indoors; majority of the time is spent sitting at a desk.
The ideal candidate has a combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma and four
years experience in mortgage loan origination or two years as a designated underwriter.

Compensation: Base starting range: $38.00 to $50.00 per hour commensurate with experience.
Our base salary starting range is based on scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, and internal peer equity.
