This position is exclusively for the 2025 Regina Refugee Hiring Event. To be eligible to apply, you must meet the following criteria:

- Currently reside in Saskatchewan.
- Should be able to attend the event in-person in Regina on September 24.
- Eligible to work in Canada (you must have a valid work permit, permanent residency, or citizenship).

Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the General Manager of Facilities & Maintenance, the Building Maintenance Operator will provide general maintenance at our YMCA’s various locations throughout Moose Jaw. Responsible for performing general building upkeep & applying basic fixes to equipment & building systems, & ensuring the buildings remain functional. Some of the main responsibilities of this role involve responding to maintenance requests, performing general regular maintenance duties, & ensuring virtually all areas of the building, including the flooring, ceiling, lighting, walls, HVAC & plumbing, are in good working order.  Act as a YMCA ambassador, demonstrating YMCA core values in daily work.

This is a Full-Time position.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Undertake maintenance duties and identify tasks that are needed to operate YMCA facilities in a safe manner.
    • Perform general repairs like patching, sanding and painting walls, changing lights and ballasts, repairing ceramic and vinyl composite floors and walls.
    • Basic plumbing and electric repairs.
    • Groundskeeping.
    • Operating hand tools such as saws, drills, etc.
    • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance work on equipment and systems by inspecting, testing, replacing parts, adjusting, lubricating, and recording results.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of building facility safety in accordance with all WCB regulations.
    • Be available to work shift work, occasional odd hours, and to take "on-call" response roll during "off' hours.
    • Adherence to the YMCA Occupational Health & Safety Policy.

Qualifications:

    • Fall Safety Certification.
    • Scissor Lift Operators Certification.
    •  Additional certifications in specific trades (e.g., plumbing, electrical) are a plus.
    • 1-2 years of experience in a maintenance role.
    • Proficiency in the use of hand and power tools.
    • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. 
    • Physical stamina & the ability to lift heavy objects. 
    • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for transportation between locations. 
    • A clear Criminal Record Check.

Adaptabilities:

    • Knowledge of basic facility maintenance functions, such as painting, plumbing, electrical and general repairs.
    • Experience in all facets of building operations, such as HVAC, controls and electrical. 
    • Ensuring that the facility complies with all relevant safety regulations, including fire safety, emergency exits, and occupational health standards.

$18 - $18 an hour
