This position is exclusively for the 2025 Toronto Refugee Hiring Event. To be eligible to apply, you must meet the following criteria:
- Arrived in Canada as a refugee (government or private sponsorship), applied for asylum after arriving in Canada (refugee claimant/asylum seeker), or were forcibly displaced. This includes individuals from countries such as Ukraine, Afghanistan, Iran, and others.
- Currently reside in the Greater Toronto Area or near the Greater Toronto Area.
- You can attend the event in person in Toronto on October 17th.
- Eligible to work in Canada (you must have Permanent Residency, Citizenship, or a valid work permit).
- 18 years of age or older.

As a CBRE Maintenance Assistant/General Maintainer, you will be responsible for maintaining small to medium-sized buildings, industrial systems, and equipment. This job is part of the Engineering and Technical Services job function. They are responsible for providing support, preventive maintenance, and repairs on equipment and systems.
What You’ll Do
- Performs light duties: sweeping, general cleaning, painting/patching, garbage removal, snow removal, etc.
- Completes basic preventive/demand maintenance tasks; input histories if required
- Completes general maintenance of door/window hardware
- Re-lamps as required
- Maintains signage
- Complete filter changes
- Inspects/repairs interior/exterior elements i.e., walls, sidewalks, etc.
- Maintains/repairs concrete precast/cement
- Inspects roof for debris; reports damage
- Repairs drywall/tiles (floor and wall)
- Assists trade as required with light maintenance of mechanical/electrical equipment
- Escalates unusual events, occurrences or unsafe conditions to supervisor
- Responds to basic tenant requests and emergencies
- Respond to environmental/comfort complaints if required
- Monitors work of contractors/external service providers to ensure adherence to contract specifics and company/industry standards
- Participates in reviewing of operating standards, policies/procedures as required
- Works in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act and all other applicable codes
- Maintain a clean work environment
What you’ll need
- Previous handyperson experience – 1 year
- You should have excellent customer service skills in ensuring client requests are responded to professionally.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written);
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in Canada without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future
$47,000 - $55,000 a year

Recruitment Process:
This position involves a two-step interview process. The first interview will take place with the recruiter on the day of the event. Candidates who are successful will then be invited to a second interview directly with the hiring manager, scheduled after the event.
