This position is exclusively for the 2025 Toronto Refugee Hiring Event. To be eligible to apply, you must meet the following criteria:

- Arrived in Canada as a refugee (government or private sponsorship), applied for asylum after arriving in Canada (refugee claimant/asylum seeker), or were forcibly displaced. This includes individuals from countries such as Ukraine, Afghanistan, Iran, and others.
- Currently reside in the Greater Toronto Area or near the Greater Toronto Area.
- You can attend the event in person in Toronto on October 17th.
- Eligible to work in Canada (you must have Permanent Residency, Citizenship, or a valid work permit).
- 18 years of age or older.

As a CBRE Building Operator, you will be responsible for maintaining small to medium-sized buildings, building systems, and equipment. This job is part of the Engineering and Technical Services job function. They are responsible for providing support, preventive maintenance, and repairs on equipment and systems.

What You’ll Do

    • Performs daily rounds and log readings
    • Completes preventative/demand maintenance tasks and input histories into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as needed; reports required changes to the supervisor
    • Ensures maximum energy efficiency, inspects/operates/maintains and repairs mechanical/electrical systems and equipment (including HVAC equipment, pumps, etc.)
    • Perform repairs such as replace washers/faucets, clear sinks, toilets and drains, replace pumps, reset breakers, repair pipe systems, etc.
    • Maintains fan/air handling units which may include greasing of bearings, replacement of filters, belt inspections and replacements
    • Conducts water treatment tests
    • Escalates unusual events, occurrences, or unsafe conditions to the supervisor
    • Responds to tenant requests and emergencies
    • Participates in reviewing operating standards, policies/procedures as required
    • Works in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all other applicable codes
    • Oversee the work of contractors/external service providers to ensure adherence to contract specifics and company/industry standards
    • Participates in meetings as required
    • Perform general building maintenance/repairs (i.e., painting, drywall, tiling)
    • Assist other classifications/trades as required
    • Maintain a clean work environment
    • Other duties as assigned

What You’ll Need

    • High School Diploma or equivalent. Electrical or Mechanical engineering courses are an asset.
    • 3+ years of experience in facilities maintenance and operations
    • Demonstrated capabilities re: accountability, judgement, decision-making, problem solving, etc.
    • Proven ability to effectively interact with clients, tenants, management, and staff.
    • Willingness to work in various shifts (morning and afternoon), and to be available on-call.
    • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in Canada without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future

$55,000 - $60,000 a year

Recruitment Process:

This position involves a two-step interview process. The first interview will take place with the recruiter on the day of the event. Candidates who are successful will then be invited to a second interview directly with the hiring manager, scheduled after the event.
