Our employer partner is a registered charity dedicated to providing comprehensive, trauma informed, culturally responsive, 24/7 support to individuals and communities in Brampton and Mississauga, helping them cope with the impact of crime or sudden tragedies.
The Sexual Assault and Anti-Human Trafficking Therapist is responsible for providing individual and group counselling to individuals who have experienced a sexual assault or who have been trafficked. The Therapist works with survivors to help them process their trauma, cope with the emotional and psychological effects, and develop a plan for healing and recovery. This includes providing short term individual and group counselling modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), as well as crisis intervention and connecting survivors with community resources and other forms of support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct psychosocial, other clinical and ongoing needs assessments.
- Develop short term and long-term goals in collaboration with the client and work through a client centered plan to achieve goals.
- Provide individual trauma-informed counselling, care plans and appropriate short-term therapeutic modalities (such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and solution-focused therapy (SFT).
- Facilitate group therapy and support sessions.
- Support survivor led peer group sessions.
- Provide crisis intervention, safety planning and crisis counselling services as needed.
- Provide linkages to appropriate mental health services including but not limited to psycho-social or mental health programs, employment programs, hospital programs and/or ACT teams.
- Identify organizations offering vital services to people who have experienced trauma.
- Advocate and liaise with other community agencies to provide wraparound support.
- Work from a client-centred approach, trauma-informed, and anti–oppressive frameworks.
- With written client consent, collaborate with the clients’ current or new service providers to provide comprehensive services without duplication.
- Maintain confidential client files, accurately documenting intervention/case notes in the database.
- Complete all required agency reporting including quantitative and qualitative data.
- Represent the organization at a variety of community/stakeholder committees.
- Participate in workshops, seminars, conferences, and training sessions to maintain and develop job-related skills.
- Actively engage in periodic fundraising events, representing the agency and supporting the event.
- Attend and present at periodic community events, education sessions, training of new police recruits & agency fundraising activities.
Qualifications:
- As a mental health clinician, you are a social worker, psychologist, psychotherapist and are a member in good standing in your profession’s regulatory college.
- MSW preferred, or equivalent education and experience in health/social services
- 3 years’ experience working in the gender-based violence sector including sexual assault, human trafficking and intimate partner violence. As well as experience working with individuals who have mental health and addiction concerns and have experienced trauma.
- 3 years’ experience working within a community agency providing crisis intervention, emotional support, counselling, along with client advocacy services.
- Knowledge and ability to work from a client-centered, anti-oppression, and harm reduction frameworks that incorporate trauma-informed practice.
- Strong assessment, interviewing and crisis intervention skills, including suicide risk assessment, psycho social mental health assessments and other clinical assessments.
- General knowledge of the social service system and community resources in the Region of Peel.
- CBT and Trauma Informed Counselling certification is considered an asset.
- The ability to speak languages predominant in the Region of Peel will be considered a strong asset.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, act with diplomacy and professionalism while exercising sound judgement in work with clients and external agencies.
- Flexibility, time management and multi-tasking skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to use conflict resolution skills as necessary.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced environment which at times means working under pressure due to the nature of a crisis environment.
- Computer proficiency includes Microsoft Office and experience working with a client database.
Working Conditions:
- Position will require working from the organization's offices and work at various community locations.
- Successful completion of a Peel Regional Police detailed criminal background check and annual renewal check is required to secure and maintain employment.
- Access to a car/driver’s license, Class ‘G’ License will be a valuable asset. Minimum $1 million auto insurance policy with public liability/property damage coverage-submit proof of insurance annually.
$68,000 - $70,000 a year
