This position is exclusively for the 2025 Regina Refugee Hiring Event. To be eligible to apply, you must meet the following criteria:

- Arrived in Canada as a refugee (government or private sponsorship), applied for asylum after arriving in Canada (refugee claimant/asylum seeker), or were forcibly displaced. This includes individuals from countries such as Ukraine, Afghanistan, Iran, and others.
- Currently reside in Saskatchewan.
- Should be able to attend the event in-person in Regina on September 24.
- Eligible to work in Canada (you must have a valid work permit, permanent residency, or citizenship).
- 18 years of age or older.

The CPH Direct Support Worker is directly accountable to their CPH Home Support Leaders and their Home Supports Coordinator and indirectly to the Associate & Executive Director. They shall be directly accountable for providing high quality support to people, working together with their support team and Home Support Leaders to ensure that goals and objectives are met.

Part-Time Opportunity: 20-30 Hours/Week

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIY:

    • Provide direct support in a manner that is consistent with CPH philosophy and personalized support plans;
    • Follow through on team decisions, support plans and directions from their Home Supports Leaders and/or Home Supports Coordinator;
    • Participate in the development, support and delivery of personalized plans for the people they support, including attending meetings as requested;
    • Develop strong, positive relationships with the people they support, their families, co-supports and external agencies involved with the people CPH serves;
    • Participate in Person Centred Planning for people receiving support;
    • Attend training, team meetings, etc… as requested/required;
    • Provide assistance to the Home Supports Leader in tasks as assigned;
    • Complete detailed documentation as required;
    • Ensure the required tracking are completed as requested;
    • Ensure communication and documentation are completed in a timely manner; and
    • Participate in the agency initiatives (e.g. Not Myself Today, Gentle Teaching, etc.)

NATURE AND SCOPE:

    • The Direct Support Worker reports directly to the Home or Community Inclusion Supports Leaders. There is approximately 4-10 full-time and part-time positions on the support team. Therefore, a team approach to providing high quality, person centered support is essential.
    • Good relations must be developed and maintained with the people we support, their network (family, friends, and personal networks), CPH management personnel and other co-supports at CPH. Good external relations must be developed and maintained with CLSD social workers, health care professionals, organizations and community contacts, including employers.
    • The most important decisions of the CPH Direct Support Worker relate to quality of life and support provided to individuals particularly: Ensuring the support provided is of high quality, person centered, and in harmony with planning CPH philosophy and Gentle Teaching.
    • Always working towards the individual’s overall satisfaction. The support person understands that they are coming into the home/life of the people served by CPH. The recognition of this must remain the foremost in our minds. We must, therefore, respect the wishes in their service provision within the parameters of safety and quality of life. Those parameters must be decided at the team level with the support of the person, the family/personal network, funding bodies and community supports (where available).

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITY:

    • Provides direct support and life style planning consistent with CPH beliefs and values and Gentle Teaching.
    • Provides direct support to people relevant to their personal plan and contract expectations.
    • Provides direct support that reflects the Gentle Teaching Principles, in that:
    • Intent is not in changing others behaviour but in changing ourselves;
    • Support is always focused on teaching the person to feel safe and loved and become more loving and engaged;
    • Positive use of the 4 tools in everyday support (hands, eyes, words, presence).
    • Support to people may include:
    • Participating in ongoing evaluations of satisfaction of people served;
    • Assisting people in problem solving or decision making;
    • Providing assistance to people in completing daily tasks (i.e. cooking, cleaning, bathing, etc…);
    • Sharing and/or developing options for community involvement, employment or recreation;
    • Participating in Monthly Reviews of PCP which includes researching, developing, scheduling, and budgeting of particular goals as assigned by SHSL/HSC and maintaining familiarity with people’s plans, goals, and team decisions regarding support approaches;
    • Participating in team celebrations and providing input, suggestions or ideas;
    • Liaising and cooperating with each person’s day program concerns individuals;
    • As required is responsible for medication administration in a manner consistent with the CPH medication policies and procedures;
    • Liaising with health care professionals as needed regarding people’s needs;
    • Maintaining valid First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification and be willing to provide First Aid assistance, if necessary; and
    • Completion and recertification of Medication Examinations annually.
    • Team Work:
    • Maintains opens and honest communication on a regular basis with their Home Supports Leaders and/or Home Supports Coordinator, those we support, their families, social workers, support networks and co-supports;
    • Participates in team evaluations by completing forms when requested;
    • Completes all required paperwork; and
    • Provides support consistently as scheduled.
    • Ensuring that all matters relating to the support and care provided to the people served by CPH shall be treated with the utmost confidence and not discussed with people outside of the support team or in the presence of other people being supported by CPH.
    • Being cautious of work-life balance and this includes understanding of and being responsible to the 24-hour clock as per CPH policy.
    • Ensuing that any sort of other employment elsewhere which is considered to be Secondary Employment from the CPH must be communicated and then approved by HR & AD.
    • Ensuring that they follow the training schedules and keep track of the training that is required for them to take. This also includes the expired courses that need to be recertified.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Related post-secondary education is an asset;
    • Direct experience with or knowledge and belief in CPH philosophy and Gentle Teaching;
    • Strong organizational and communication skills;
    • Valid class 5 Driver’s License (any surcharge that may appear under CPH insurance must be paid in full by the employee annually);
    • Prior experience providing direct “hands on” support with people with intellectual disabilities;
    • Being willing and available to take the required training within 6 months of employment; and
    • A working knowledge of the following:
    • Crisis Prevention and Intervention techniques
    • Alternative communications
    • Intellectual and/or developmental disability
    • It is desirable that this position sees the importance of the individually oriented support plans for each person served. This position should also demonstrate both creativity and common sense when serving people.

$22.14 - $22.14 an hour
