This position is exclusively for the 2025 Regina Refugee Hiring Event. To be eligible to apply, you must meet the following criteria:

- Arrived in Canada as a refugee (government or private sponsorship), applied for asylum after arriving in Canada (refugee claimant/asylum seeker), or were forcibly displaced. This includes individuals from countries such as Ukraine, Afghanistan, Iran, and others.
- Currently reside in Saskatchewan.
- Should be able to attend the event in-person in Regina on September 24.
- Eligible to work in Canada (you must have a valid work permit, permanent residency, or citizenship).
- 18 years of age or older.

Reporting to the Centre Director the ECE ensures that all YMCA Child Care programs provide quality care, service and support to the participants and their families. Responsible for planning and implementing age-appropriate programs and presenting a safe/clean, and visually appealing environment in accordance with the Ministry of Education regulations and YMCA Playing to Learn/YMCA A Place to Connect. Act as a YMCA ambassador, demonstrating YMCA core values in daily work.

This is a Full-Time position.

Base Line Expectations:

    • Maintain ratios and 100% supervision of all children in your care with accurate real time attendance tracking. (lanyards, room board and sign in/out sheets).
    • Promote and maintain personal care and hygiene of the children in your care. Including diaper changes, bath rooming, hand and face washing, changing soiled clothing and bedding. 
    • Complete all documentations: minor injury reports, medication forms, and Injury/Unusual Occurrence forms. 
    • Respectful and cooperative interactions with parents. Respectful of family choices, cultural and spirituality differences. 
    • If at any time these baseline expectations are not met. You can expect formal action to be taken. This can include disciplinary action from a formal written warning, unpaid suspension and/or termination of employment. 

Provide a Safe and Nurturing Environment:

    • Ensure the children are emotionally and physically secure in the environment.
    • Provide an inclusive environment where all children flourish and learn. 
    • Promote and maintain personal care and hygiene of the children enrolled, including diaper changes, bath rooming, washing hands, changing soiled clothing and bedding. 
    • Use guidance and discipline strategies that are consistent with the philosophy of the YMCA of Regina. 
    • Assist in the assessment, referral, and support of children with diverse needs. 
    • Demonstrates and uses positive guidelines; such as modeling, redirecting, positive language and positive reinforcement. 
    • Promote a positive social emotional relationship with the children and families in accordance to the YMCA Playing to Learn standards. 
    • Read, understand and comply with all YMCA Child Protection Policy and Procedures. Attend and complete training as required. 
    • Attend and comply with all YMCA Playing to Learn Core Trainings to provide quality childcare programming in accordance with YMCA National Standards. 
    • Understand and follow all Ministry of Education Childcare Regulations. 
    • Any other duties required by the leadership team. 

Maintain Staff to Child Ratios and Adequate Supervision:

    • Count children and maintain ratios throughout the day. 
    • Keeping children safe in the environment that you are in (ie Classroom, outdoors, and on excursions).
    • Monitor all the children in your care to ensure safety. 
    • Documentation to monitor the general safety of the children, inform supervisors of any hazards and concerns for the child's safety. 
    • Demonstrate active supervision of the children. 
    • Understanding, and following the YMCA Child Protection & Ministry supervision procedures in high risk areas. (gym, play structure and outdoor spaces).
    •  Complete all documentations, minor injuries, medication forms, unusual occurrence reports. 

Program Educational Experiences That Enrich the Lives of The Children:

    • Program, plan, and implement age appropriate and developmentally sound activities based on the interest and developmental levels of the children in your care in compliance with the Playing to Learn curriculum. 
    • Demonstrates a clear understanding of a child directed environment and scaffolds and extends experiences for children accordingly. 
    • Provide activities that develop verbal skills, self-discipline, decision-making, and problem solving. 
    • Actively participate in play, being a play partner and adding to the play without taking over. (5 hats of a play partner) 
    • Maintain small groups throughout the day in accordance to the YMCA Playing to Learn Standards. 
    • Complete program plans, documentation, journals and newsletters in compliance with Playing to Learn curriculum. 
    • Implements and understand an emergent curriculum. 
    • Participate in Playing to Learn training core training. 
    • Participate in Playing to Learn Supplemental training as needed. 
    • Provide daily opportunities for indoor and outdoor (according to Ministry Standards) physical activities. 
    • Maintain a clean, clutter free and aesthetically pleasing environment in accordance to YMCA Playing to Learn Standards. 

Act as a Support System For Families and Team Members:

    • Provide information or guide families to appropriate venues for information on the development and well-being of the children. 
    • Respect cultural, spiritual and family choices in every family that we serve. 
    • Always maintain confidentiality. 
    • Is respectful and cooperative in interactions with the parents. 

Qualifications:

    • ECE Certification Level I or willingness to obtain. Minimum 1-year childcare experience. 
    • Participate in Playing to Learn Core Training. 
    • Current CPR/First Aid.
    • Criminal record check with vulnerable sector check. 
    • Compliance with YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedure.
    • Ability to use frequent light to medium physical effort: lifting up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), bending and stooping; picking up a child.
    • The ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold.

$15 - $15 an hour
