Research Innovations, Inc. (RII) is breaking through the big, slow, status quo with transformative technology that fundamentally changes and improves the world. We develop cutting-edge software for all levels of the government and military. Using agile development practices and user-centered design, we create innovative software solutions for complex real-world problems.

We’re looking for a motivated Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) Intern to join our Software Engineering team. This hybrid role blends software development with quality engineering—focusing on building smart, automated systems to detect bugs early and reliably. You'll contribute to real-world projects that support critical missions for U.S. and international defense customers.

As part of this opportunity, you will gain hands-on experience in a professional software engineering environment by contributing directly to a real-world product. You'll be exposed to the full software development lifecycle and learn best practices within an Agile framework. Throughout your time here, you’ll develop practical skills in software testing, automation frameworks, and the use of modern development tools. In addition, you’ll benefit from dedicated mentorship by experienced engineers who are committed to supporting your growth and success.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

    • Design and develop automated tests for both front-end (UI) and back-end systems
    • Build custom tools and scripts to improve test efficiency and coverage
    • Identify, document, and track software issues using modern development tools (e.g., Git, Jira)

WHAT YOU HAVE DONE

    • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
    • Proficient in at least one object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java, Python, C++)
    • Strong understanding of core CS concepts: data structures, algorithms, and design principles
    • Familiar with web technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS) and RESTful APIs
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
    • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities

EVEN BETTER

    • Coursework or personal projects related to software testing or quality assurance
    • Experience with scripting languages like Python or Bash
    • Exposure to automated testing frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, JUnit, PyTest)
