Retro develops therapies for diseases driven by the biology of aging. We focus on cellular reprogramming and autophagy to rejuvenate cell and tissue function with the ultimate aim of adding 10 years to healthy human lifespan.

We’re building a mission-driven team of accomplished and kind individuals who embrace our startup culture of rapid iteration, transparency, and versatility.

We are hiring a new member of the team to help develop our induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) reprogramming platform. In this role, you will enable Retro to move faster and spend less by expanding our in-house capabilities. Your responsibilities will include reprogramming somatic cells into iPSCs, characterizing pluripotent cells, developing scalable processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and contributing to the advancement of our therapeutic programs.

About you:
You are extremely meticulous and detail-oriented in everything from your aseptic technique to your note taking. You work well independently but will also thrive in a cross-functional role working with multiple therapeutic programs. You are excited to work on, and solve, hard problems and ultimately help extend healthy human lifespan!

In this role, you will:

    • Help establish and optimize protocols for reprogramming differentiated cells into iPSCs.
    • Maintain, expand, and cryopreserve a diverse range of iPSC lines, ensuring their quality and pluripotency.
    • Conduct comprehensive molecular and phenotypic characterization of iPSC lines and their derivatives. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
    • Maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental procedures and results.
    • Support design and development of scalable production processes for iPSC generation.
    • Assist in the scale-up of processes from lab scale to full production.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and execute experiments that advance our regenerative medicine initiatives.
    • Stay current with advancements in stem cell biology and genetic editing technologies to continually improve platform capabilities.

You might thrive in this role if you:

    • Have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology or a relevant field and at least 4 or 2 years of relevant experience in industry, respectively, or a Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related discipline.
    • Have proven expertise in iPSC technology, including reprogramming, maintenance, characterization, and differentiation.
    • Have a strong background in molecular biology techniques such as qPCR, ddPCR, flow cytometry, and immunocytochemistry.
    • You’re energetic, detail-oriented, intellectually curious, ambitious, and deeply pragmatic. You thrive in a culture that embraces rapid iteration and open, straightforward communication.
    • Have a burning desire to understand aging biology through the lens of modern data-rich measurement technologies.

It's a bonus if you:

    • Have hands-on experience with genetic editing of iPSCs.
    • Are familiar with genomic analysis tools and next-generation sequencing.
    • Have a strong background in process development, including designing and optimizing scalable production processes.
