Tissue Reprogramming /
Full-time /
On-site
Retro develops therapies for diseases driven by the biology of aging. We focus on cellular reprogramming and autophagy to rejuvenate cell and tissue function with the ultimate aim of adding 10 years to healthy human lifespan.
We’re building a mission-driven team of accomplished and kind individuals who embrace our startup culture of rapid iteration, transparency, and versatility.
We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist to support the development of our cellular reprogramming-based rejuvenation therapies in the Tissue Reprogramming group. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in cellular reprogramming to transform cutting-edge research into clinically viable interventions, redefining the boundaries of gene therapy and extending human health span. Your work will generate early proof-of-concept data and support the preclinical to clinical development.
About you:
You are curious and open-minded - excited to learn new things and find creative, unconventional ways to approach therapeutic development. You are adaptable and have the ability to drive scientific research forward, both independently and in collaboration with cross-functional teams. You are an effective, direct communicator who thinks critically about their work and is willing to share data-backed opposing opinions with your team.
In this role you will:
- Utilize your expertise in cellular reprogramming to investigate the rejuvenation effects and mechanisms of epigenetic reprogramming in normal tissues as well as pathological conditions.
- Design and execute cutting-edge experiments in molecular biology, cell biology, and in vivo gene delivery, developing and utilizing disease animal models and functional assays (both in vitro and in vivo).
- Analyze and interpret experimental data rigorously, identifying key insights to inform decision-making and strategy.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly through written reports, presentations, and regular updates to both internal and external and technical and non-technical collaborators.
- Lead cross-functional gene therapy projects, working closely with fast-paced internal teams, external collaborators, and CROs to ensure timelines, milestones, and quality standards are met.
- Act as a mentor and role model, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment that aligns with Retro’s mission and culture.
You will thrive in this role if you:
- Have a PhD in cell biology, physiology, pathology, or other related fields, preferably with at least 2 years of postdoctoral training or industry experience, or a MS in related fields, with at least 8 years of relevant experience in the wet lab.
- Are experienced with epigenetic reprogramming and modeling of age-related diseases both in vitro and in vivo.
- Have a good understanding of gene therapy and related hands-on experiences, including viral or nonviral construct design and cloning, virus packaging and titration, LNP formulation, animal dosing, histological analysis on various tissue types, functional assay development, biodistribution, in vivo toxicology.
- Are passionate about translational research and rejuvenation therapies.
- Are intellectually curious and detail-oriented, maintaining high standards for research data while actively and accurately communicating your findings.
It’s a bonus if you:
- Have aging research experience in multiple organ and tissue types, specifically in regards to histology and bioassay development.
- Have experience in developing and refining disease models, focusing on age-related conditions.
- Have industry experience in gene therapy.
$130,000 - $170,000 a year
Total compensation also includes generous equity and benefits including:
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance for you and your family
- 401(k) plan with 4% matching
- Flexible time off and 10 company holidays per year
- Paid parental leave
