Summary/Objective 
Oversee all aspects of sterile compounding operations in accordance with regulatory standards (USP 797, USP 800, FDA guidance) and best practices. This role requires strong knowledge of compounding techniques, exceptional attention to detail, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and efficacy of compounded medications.

Essential Functions
- Prepares sterile medications following established compounding protocols and guidelines (USP 797, USP 800, FDA guidance), ensuring the accuracy and sterility of each product.
- Oversees the aseptic compounding of sterile medications, infusions, and other preparations, ensuring accuracy, sterility, and compliance with prescribed protocols.
- Conducts thorough quality control checks throughout the compounding process to verify the integrity and potency of compounded medications. This includes visual inspection, pH testing, and microbial testing to detect any deviations from standards and ensuring compliance with requirements.
- Adheres to all state and federal regulations governing sterile compounding practices and guidelines.
- Maintains and calibrates compounding equipment to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.
- Maintains accurate records of all compounded medications, including batch records, expiration dates, ingredient logs and lot numbers.
- Monitors and manages inventory levels of compounding materials, ensuring an adequate supply of sterile ingredients, equipment, and supplies to support ongoing compounding operations. This includes ordering, receiving, and storing sterile compounding materials in accordance with industry best practices.
- Provides training and education to pharmacy staff on sterile compounding techniques, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Provides counseling and address patients on the proper use, administration, and storage of compounded medications.
- Collaborates with other healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Identifies opportunities for process improvement in sterile compounding operations and implements best practices to enhance efficiency and safety.
- Adheres to established policies and procedures to uphold patient safety and regulatory compliance at all times.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position supervises sterile compounding pharmacy technicians under the direction of the sterile compounding pharmacist manager. 

Work Environment
This job operates in a compounding pharmacy environment. This role routinely uses sterile and specialized equipment such as aslyophilizer machine, electronic balances, and biological safety cabinets.

Physical Demands
This position requires frequent sitting, walking, standing, reading, seeing, speaking, hearing, listening, organizing, interpreting data and information, operating pharmacy and sterile equipment, typing using a computer keyboard and mouse, viewing a computer screen monitor, and use of a telephone. Some positions may require lifting, occasional bending or kneeling. The working environment consists of an indoor and climate-controlled setting the majority of the time. The employee may regularly lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.

Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience
·       Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
·       Current and active pharmacist license in the practicing states.
·       Completion of ASHP compounded sterile preparations course.
·       Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a sterile compounding in a pharmacy setting.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
·       Strong knowledge of drug interactions, side effects, and dosing guidelines.
·       Proficient in sterile compounding techniques, equipment, and quality assurance processes.
·       Acquiring multiple/additional state pharmacist licensures may be requested.
·       Proficient in pharmacy software systems.
