This role will support our Berkeley quantum computing lab. This lab is building emerging technology and is a leader in the quantum computing space competing with the likes of IBM, Google and others. Newly public as of 2022, we are taking our operations to the next level and seek a dedicated individual to partner with internal teams to ensure up-time and business continuity along with safety.

You would be part of a global team of scientists and engineers striving to build the world's most powerful computers! The ideal candidate has strong working experience as a project manager and facilities operations manager in semiconductor manufacturing or R&D laboratory facilities.

Your role requires leadership and is also very hands-on; your focus will be: maintaining, repairing, and inspecting buildings, equipment, and grounds (including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC) to identify maintenance issues.

We are looking for someone who "leads the way" and collaborates well with functional teams on projects with varying resource requirements, which often requires judgment and innovative solutions. Your role impacts our customers; you are able to communicate concepts and successfully negotiate with others, including business leadership.

While this facility is staffed during normal working hours M-F, pager-duty (on call 24/7/365) is part of the role.

Example of Duties

    • EH&S Checks: Ensure proper facilities safety protocols are maintained. Work with our EH&S consultant to ensure compliance to all EH&S federal/state and local municipality regulations, along with responsibility for routine inspections for regular fire and safety equipment (i.e. fire extinguishers/ sprinklers)
    • Maintain SDS (formerly MSDS) log book for any chemicals that enter the building
    • Maintain flow sensors, filter changes on the cryo compressors and assist Engineering Operations with performing preventative maintenance of the cryo compressors
    • Vendor/Contractor Management: janitorial services, physical security, shipping/receiving, recycling, waste, and document control
    • Assist in determining the equipment and supply needs to support the function of the building and the facilities upkeep. Manage the following areas: Office area, HVAC, Kitchen, Restrooms (via janitorial services management)

Useful Work Experience

    • Knowledge and Experience in facilities systems including but not limited to:
    • Acid waste and exhaust, solvent waste and exhaust, chilled/condenser water, hot water, process chilled water, process gases, controls, and monitoring systems
    • Fire Life Safety and Gas Life Safety Systems City Permit requirements, National Electrical Code, Building Codes, Fire Codes, and Environmental, Health & Safety regulations and requirements
    • Building control systems
    • Knowledge of SPC, 8D, DMAIC, FMEA, and other relevant processes
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Proficient in Windows based software including Excel, Word, Project, Visio, PowerPoint and AutoCAD

Specifically Valuable to Rigetti

    • 10-15 years of experience in technical facilities project management and operations including leadership in semiconductor facilities
    • Hands-on experience in: electrical engineering, maintenance, environmental, health, safety, energy, civil engineering, and HVAC needs is a major plus
    • Familiarity with supporting equipment - i.e. chillers, back-up electrical systems, furnaces, AC, power systems, etc. for a data center and/or commercial buildings
$150,000 - $185,000 a year

Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, and geographic location.
