Junior Quantum Engineer - Fabrication Intern
Junior Quantum Engineering – Fabrication Intern
Rigetti Computing is developing cloud-deployed quantum computers to solve humanity's most pressing problems. We are a highly diverse and interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers working on groundbreaking technology in an entrepreneurial environment.
During your internship we will work together to help you gain fluency and hands-on experience across several domains of advanced engineering, physics, and computer science. You will be embedded on a core technical team, and will collaborate with our engineers, including the rest of the intern cohort. Depending on your specific assignment, this can include microwave engineering, cryogenic systems, nanofabrication, superconductivity, machine learning, quantum error correction, quantum optics, quantum and classical processor architectures, digital and analog signal processing, and quantum operating system software development.
There are four JQE tracks appropriate for candidates' interests and experience: Physics, Hardware, Software, and Fabrication. Candidates in the JQE Fabrication track typically come from Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, or EE backgrounds. Fabrication JQEs work at the intersection of Fabrication, Design, and Quantum Engineering to characterize and refine the fabrication processes and design parameters that determine the performance of the chips produced in our quantum integrated circuit foundry.
The JQE position requires a highly diverse skill set with excellent problem-solving ability and creativity. It does not, however, require prior experience in quantum computing.
When applying, please consider the following dates as these are our preferred start and end dates:
Start Date: June 15, 2020
End Date: Aug 14, 2020
- B.S. or M.S. degree expected by September 2021 in Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, EE, or related fields
- Strong appetite for learning
- Extraordinary communication skills
- Strong programming ability
- Demonstrated ability for teamwork and leadership
- Some knowledge of quantum computing and quantum circuits (this is not a hard prerequisite, but the more you know the better)
- Academic distinction in relevant coursework
- Research experience
Rigetti Computing is on a mission to build the world’s most powerful computers. Based in Berkeley and Fremont, CA, we are scientists, engineers, builders, and visionaries who believe quantum computing is going to significantly affect health care, how we treat disease, how we generate energy, and how we feed humanity. We design and fabricate quantum circuits and deploy them as quantum computers available online. Our engineers build the full stack of technologies that are integrated into these machines, including cryogenic hardware and microwave circuitry, advanced analog and digital control modules, and a software stack that provides the world’s most advanced SDK and runtime environment for quantum computers. Our quantum computer is available through Our product, Quantum Cloud Services, which is the world’s first full-stack programming and execution environment for quantum/classical computing. We were founded by Chad Rigetti in 2013, and today employ over 140 people.
