Position Overview

Riverdale seeks an innovative Middle and Upper School computer science teacher to develop and teach introductory and advanced computer science classes. Our courses use a variety of programming languages, including block-based coding, JavaScript, Processing/p5.js, Python, and Java. In addition, the computer science teacher will assist with various extracurricular activities and programs such as Vex Robotics, Girls Who Code, Rocketry, Game Design Group, and Build a Ware. Riverdale is looking for a candidate who intentionally uses their teaching practice to build and sustain an inclusive learning environment for all students. The candidate must meet the needs of students across a range of academic abilities and identities.

Necessary Requirements:

-A Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, math, or technology-related field from an accredited college or university.

-3-5 years experience teaching at the Middle and/or Upper School level.

-A candidate who can effectively develop and teach introductory, advanced, and interdisciplinary computer science classes.

-A candidate who Intentionally uses their teaching practice to build and sustain an inclusive learning environment for all students. 

-A candidate interested in collaborating with those in other departments to explore opportunities to incorporate computer science into existing curricula. 

-A candidate interested in growing the computer science program for students to address real problems with understanding how technology intersects with society.

Salary Scale

The salary range for this position is based on our faculty salary scale.  Faculty are placed on “steps” on the scale based on years of experience and education. 

Sample steps for the academic year 2024-2025 are shown below in five-year increments:

Step 1:  $63,500

Step 5:  $69,616

Step 10: $77,360

Step 15: $86, 682

Step 20: $95, 625

Sabbatical:  Full time teaching faculty are eligible for a sabbatical after 10 years of employment.

Retirement:  Employees are eligible to join our Defined Contribution retirement plan through TIAA.  The school contributes 7% of an employee's annual salary to their retirement account.
