Riverdale Country School is a Pre-K through grade 12 independent school in New York City committed to empowering lifelong learners by developing minds, building character, and creating community in order to change our world for the good. Riverdale seeks to reflect the diversity of the New York metropolitan area in its students, faculty, and staff. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) is the foundational core of the anti-racist, anti-bias, and transformational work that Riverdale is doing to help students, faculty/staff, families, and alumni feel seen, heard, and valued. The school enrolls about 1,200 students who collectively reside in 104 different zip codes. Approximately 43% of our student body are students of color.

We seek to employ people who engage in all aspects of work with a student-centered approach, an open mind, passion, and a willingness to support the greater community. At Riverdale we recognize that the work of DEIB is iterative and requires a consistent commitment. Ideal candidates display that commitment in their work and in their approach to teaching and learning.

As we balance the health and safety of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic with in-person education, Riverdale Country School has the following COVID-19 policies in place: 1) All community members are required to be vaccinated and boosted, as they become eligible. All visitors during the school day are required to show documentation of their vaccination; 2) Assuming case numbers remain low, as of March 31, 2022, Riverdale will have a Mask Optional policy for students and employees. We encourage all community members to make the choice about whether to wear a mask that is right for them and to respect others’ choices. Visitors to our campus, including those interviewing, will be required to either wear a mask on campus or take an antigen test with our nurses on the morning of their visit; and 3)We currently provide free weekly COVID-19 testing for all employees and require students to upload test results weekly.

We are fortunate to have large campuses where we can maximize the use of outdoor spaces. These elements have allowed us to maintain a rich learning experience for students throughout the pandemic.

Riverdale Country School is currently interviewing energetic and motivated Substitute Teacher candidates to work with students from Pre-Kindergarten to 5th grade. Candidates should enjoy working with children and should have a minimum of an Associates degree.  Substitute Teachers oversee students’ learning in core subject areas and / or special areas throughout the school day and are responsible for the health and safety of our students.

Applicants for substitute teaching should submit a cover letter of interest and a resume including current contact information. Qualified applicants for substitute teaching will be invited to set up a phone interview.
