Manager FP&A – Sales/Inventory Planning

This role is responsible for leading the Commercial Finance team’s vehicle sales and planning process for both corporate inventory planning, as well as sales & gross margin management reporting. This unique position will work with S&PO team and Corporate FP&A to oversee the inventory management process for Rivian B2C and B2B sales. This position also plays an important role in analyzing business trends and proactively communicating them to senior management. In this role you'll work with partners across the organization and will have a unique opportunity to work with financials for all of products, gaining an understanding of how the full Rivian portfolio is managed. You will support executive decision making and communication to the board of directors. This role is focused on forward-looking projections and offers the opportunity to impact all three financial statements across all business units and functions in the Rivian portfolio.
The main commercial systems and processes to be built span across four areas:
1.     Commercial FP&A: Partnering with Corporate FP&A, Product Development Finance, Sales Operations/S&OP, Strategy, and Manufacturing to model retail revenue and gross margin for budgeting and forecasting
2.     Commercial Financial Operations: Partnering with Accounts Receivables/Treasury, Accounting, Retail, and Logistics to ensure the order-to-cash process is smooth, efficient, tax-compliant, and that necessary and helpful transactional data is available for financial analysis
3.     Investigate, research, model and present findings recommending the best course of action regarding new business opportunities, market entry/exit decisions, etc.
4.     Product Insights: partnering with Vehicle Telematics, Enterprise Quality, and field service operations to enable deep understanding of the costs to repair and maintain the Rivian car
·        Manage the financial forecast process for revenue and gross margin for B2C and B2C vehicle sales
·        Partner with cross-functional team to develop sales and inventory targets that support the company’s annual operating plan
·        Participate in and lead key areas of annual, quarterly and long-range sales gross margin and inventory planning that supports financial goals
·        Develop in-season financial forecasts that drive cross-functional team to maximize inventory productivity and top-line sales & gross margin, while clearly communicating risks and opportunities to the forecast
·        Provide analytical support and insight into the daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual business performance on sales, gross margin, inventory, traffic, and conversion across all product categories, channels, and geographies
·        Deliver consistent and compelling weekly business updates that provide concise, fact-based diagnostics regarding business performance, thereby facilitating timely decision-making
·        Provide analytical insights into customer behavior and effectiveness of strategies through ad hoc analysis and special projects
·        Manage the corporate inventory management reporting process, working closely with business partners to understand business dynamics and approve inventory commitments
·        Work with Product Development Finance, Manufacturing Finance and Logistics on financial inventory forecasting vehicle COGS, including all balance sheet related items, as well as in transit forecasting
·        Lead consolidation of sales comp component and inventory forecasts from all revenue streams and channels. Analyze submissions to understand key trends and influence business decisions
·        Provide ad hoc reporting on sales, gross margin and inventory for Board of Directors, CEO, CFO and Board of Directors
·        Recognize areas to improve the effectiveness of our financial planning and forecasting activities and strive to streamline processes and improve tools
·        Develop and maintain cross-divisional relationships with key business partners to maximize team's effectiveness
·        7-10 years of work experience as finance leaser with extensive inventory management and retail planning and forecasting experience
·        Proven analytical ability and creative problem-solving skills
·        Proven ability to develop effective business partner relationships
·        Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to interact with various management levels
·        General knowledge of accounting/financial/operational principles and theory
·        Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to a changing, fast paced environment
·        Proven experience budgeting, planning, forecasting, closing and reconciling operating expenditures
·        Strong organizational skills reflecting prioritization with a sense of urgency
·        Excellent analytical and problem-solving skill with the ability to process data from multiple sources and build models from the ground up
·        Flexibility in prioritizing in a fast-paced, growth environment
·        Ability to effectively articulate financial stories in a clear and concise manner
·        Proven ability developing and improving processes to make reporting better, faster and easier
·        Strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills required, experience with Adaptive Insights and SAP a plus
·        Bachelor’s degree (MBA/CPA a plus) in Finance or Accounting
