Have you ever wanted to work for a company that will change the world? At Rivian, you’ll have that opportunity. For the last century, the automobile has dominated the way we move. No other mode of transport has offered the same level of flexibility in routes, departure times, or configurations. But owning a vehicle is not problem free. It depreciates in value, it's massively underutilized, and--between cleaning, maintenance, insurance, and fueling--it takes a lot of effort to keep it on the road. Beyond all of this hassle, the automotive system has contributed to many of the planet's biggest challenges, including air quality, climate change, congestion, and energy dependence. There is a better solution. This requires us to not only redesign the vehicle, but also the ecosystem around it. Backed by strong investors and driven by a team of passionate innovators, Rivian is creating solutions that redefine traditional automotive economics and remove the pain points of conventional ownership.
THIS IS WHO YOU ARE:
Lead Electronics Packaging Engineer – You think of electronics packaging as a puzzle, fitting space, thermal, rigidity, and cost constraints; innately understanding the engineering tradeoffs that were made to achieve the desired goals. You understand manufacturability, draft angles, and flow rates. You are a critical thinker, an expeditor, and a problem solver. You love working with your hands and tools to get to the root of a problem and resolve it. You have a history of effectively collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to tightly integrate electrical components into the harsh environment of an automobile.
THIS IS WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Electronics Packaging Design and Release – You will lead all aspects of electronics packaging design for internally designed components at Rivian. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to define packaging space requirements within the vehicle. You will design enclosures and mechanical assemblies for Infotainment, Connected Car, ADAS, and harnessing systems that meet strict thermal, shock, and vibration requirements. You will be responsible for ensuring designs meet automotive requirements, including drawing GD&T, materials selection, flammability ratings, outgassing, thermal management, vibration, shock tolerance, module takt time, and manufacturability. You will be responsible for releasing components into PLM
Production Management – You will work with suppliers to make sure your designs are optimized for high volume manufacturing, while meeting all performance targets. You will be reviewing manufacturing drawings and assembly drawings to ensure proper end item builds.
Mechanical Validation - You will help select mechanical shock and vibration levels for your product accordingly. You will coordinate CAE analysis for thermal and vibration durability simulations. You will be aiding in the mechanical validation of your product, including fixture design and failure analysis, to ensure it meets Environmental durability and reliability standards.
Vehicle Level Integration – You will work with vehicle integration to determine packaging envelopes, and ensure your designs are integrated and properly mounted in the vehicle. You will be responsible for the mechanical performance of the module in the vehicle.
THIS IS WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
Minimum Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering
5 years experience in folded sheet metal, cast aluminum, and injection molded plastic electronic packaging designs
Extensive experience using CAD tools, Catia V5 or V6 preferred
Design for thermal,vibration, and EMI
Familiar with GD&T requirements
Expert in high volume Production
Expert in tooling design and review
Experience in designing for CTE, mechanical shock and vibration.
