EDS System Integration Engineer

Irvine, CA /
IT and Technology – Electrical Hardware /
Full Time
This is what you’ll do:
The Electrical Distribution Systems (EDS), Systems Integration (SI) Engineer will be responsible and accountable for developing all assigned logical/wiring diagrams for the vehicle electrical interface architecture for all Rivian vehicle phases/programs, and act as a technical program manager for the generation of sub-system electrical schematics not only to support adjacent Rivian System groups, EDS Design/Application engineering teams, System electrical DFMEA(s), but also the development and completion of vehicle service schematics.  Tasks will be completed in accordance with Rivian Gateway objectives from initial product plan feature requirements, mid-cycle actions, and through end-of-life.  Responsibilities for this role include:

This is what you’ll do:
·       Derive electrical system functional requirements from vehicle product plan and populate JAMA
·       Establish interface topologies for device connections, specialty cables, grounding, 12V high-current, and integrate with vehicle communication protocols (e.g. CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.)
·       Collaborate with hardware / software vehicle architects to develop vehicle integration strategies for physical implementation of the harnessing
·       Derive information from all device transmittals (DT / ICDs), JAMA requirements, and collaboration with Rivian DRE(s) and output sub-system schematics using Arcadia or Mentor Graphics Capital Systems
·       Develop a Rivian Systems database and process for Change Management control to support sub-system diagrams and Device Transmittal Change Requests
·       Develop complexity matrices for all assigned harness families, defining all assembly and circuit level sales codes
·       Define and review connector/circuit special requirements with Rivian DRE(s) (e.g. voltage drop, sleep current targets, capacitive coupling & mutual inductance, differentiation from EMI paths, etc.)
·       Establish an EMI/EMC model/simulation and testing process for electrical distribution of circuits
·       Gather load profiles and collaborate with the Power Distribution Engineer to develop “fuse trees” from supplier and internal technical documentation
·       Lead internal and supplier design logical diagram reviews, ensuring closure of all system related issues, identifying functional safety requirements and developing a system level DFMEA, in preparation for component level DFMEA(s)
·       Develop electrical end-of-line tests, component / vehicle level test procedures (e.g. short-circuit / overcurrent, individual/full load and GND lift surveys, etc.), following issues to closure for PPAP compliance
·       Support Vehicle and Tier I Assembly lines during builds for follow-through of design, issue tracking and closure
·       Develop and release Rivian Service Electrical Schematics
·       Continuously improve Rivian standards for electrical systems integration, applying lessons-learned for future development of upgraded software to optimize early on case-studies using tools, such as, Mentor Graphics Capital Systems Capture and Architect / Cost / Mass

This is what you’ll need:
·       Patience, kindness, self-control, confidently centered around a positive mental attitude
·       Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Masters in Mathematics, or related engineering disciplines that require a high attention to detail
·       5+ years of automotive or aerospace vehicle system functional knowledge
·       Having a working understanding of harness routing paths in vehicle virtual environment, considering electrical, mechanical, and environmental conditions for circuit routes when developing architecture
·       Tactfulness when collaborating with device owners with limited information to ensure all device transmittals (DT / ICDs) are properly completed prior to phase releases, producing a sub-system schematic
·       Working knowledge of downstream design verification testing and the impact of early-on development
·       Experience with vehicle assembly processes or a working knowledge of the topographical layout of systems
·       Ability to select appropriate overcurrent protection devices with Power Distribution Engineer (PDE)
·       Experience developing power electronics, utilizing communication protocols such as, CAN/LIN/etc.
·       3D CAD experience with CATIA v5/v6, NX, SolidWorks, or etc.
·       2D CAD experience with AutoCAD, MentorGraphics, Arcadia, or etc.
·       Willingness to develop new technologies for future programs
·       Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and listening)
·       Self-driven, displaying initiative with minimal supervision
·       Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Visio, and Power Point
