This is who you are:
You are a seasoned veteran in the battery industry, with extensive experience in a broad array of battery tests. You are familiar with battery tests at the module and pack level. You understand how the tests relate to the overall function of the battery and its role in the car. You know battery test equipment vendors. You understand battery standard test methods in automotive, including SAE and ISO standards. You know your way around a DFMEA and fault tree. You have a detailed understanding of the automotive requirements process, including decomposing vehicle-level features to part specs. You directly lead managers of teams.
This is what you’ll do:
· Lead testing to support development activities
o Develop and execute a plan to achieve testing on timeframes required by program team and other stakeholders
o Provide forecasting of test load factors to identify potential resource shortfalls. Provide options for outsourcing or load management to achieve all goals on-time
o Create test procedures for specific equipment based on outline of test goals from validation team
o Execute testing for validation programs and provide regular updates to leadership
· Manage test equipment and laboratory in Irvine
o Manage the testing staff and provide day-to-day guidance, including personnel functions, staffing, and technical
o Oversee install of new equipment, working with vendors to ensure that it is done on-time and correctly
o Work with Rivian facilities team to ensure that Irvine testing facilities continues to meet all legal regulations
· Lead Validation Activities
o Collaborate with Vehicle-level Feature/Requirement stakeholders at Rivian to develop requirements for the battery
o Work with DRE stakeholders to determine test plans from FMEAs and vehicle-level requirements
o Lead development of test plan concepts and and lead transfer from validation team to test team in Normal, IL.
· Manage Prototype Facility in Irvine
o Provide leadership of prototype facility in Irvine, including the lab and personnel
o Work with ESS Operations staff to ensure that all laboratory materials are present and available to support builds
o Ensure all prototype assets are provided as needed for Advanced Concepts programs as well as other stakeholders
This is what you’ll need:
· 10+ years of work experience in the automotive battery industry, with 15+ preferred. OEM experience preferred.
· Advanced degree required in electrical or mechanical engineering or a related discipline
· Experience with test standards from regulatory and industry standards, including UN, SAE, USCAR, VDA, and others
· Experience with electrical, thermal, and mechanical test equipment including cyclers, thermal chambers, and shakers.
· Track record of leading high-functioning teams in battery testing
· Strong quantitative and communication skills
