Principal Mechanical Engineer, Stationary Storage

This is what you’ll do:
·       Lead and review battery rack mechanical concepts including design, structural and temperature management
·       Lead and review the design of modular enclosures to house batteries, cooling, fire suppression, power conversion, controls and switchgear
·       Oversee fire propagation and thermal runaway tests and analysis
·       Review and optimize component and system space claims
·       Review cable routing and layout for space optimization
·       Perform and review structural integrity analysis
·       Develop and review component specifications and work with suppliers including components for thermal management
·       Review detailed CAD models
·       Review 2D drawings
·       Lead DFMEAs, test plan creation and risk assessments
·       Lead DFM and ensure DFM feedback is implemented
·       Support manufacturing, internal and contract, for prototype and production builds
This is what you’ll need:
·       Design experience for injection molding, forming/stamping, casting and extrusion and sheet metal machining
·       Proficiency in 3D modeling (CATIA preferred)
·       Knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
·       FEA experience required
·       Battery pack thermal management experience
·       Experience designing and releasing parts and systems according to a new product introduction process that includes lifecycle management (Enovia PLM preferred), FMEAs, standards for drawings and defined milestones
·       Experience with designing enclosures and packaging for electrical systems and batteries
·       Experience with prototyping builds
·       Experience with battery energy storage system requirements
·       Experience working with international suppliers
·       Previous experience with utility scale and commercial & industrial energy storage systems
·       15+ years industry experience
·       At least a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Masters preferred
