Director of Testing and Facilities, Battery ESS

This is what you’ll do:
·        Lead testing to support validation activities
o   Develop and execute a plan to achieve needed testing on timeframes required by validation team, program team, and other stakeholders
o   Provide forecasting of test load factors to identify potential resource shortfalls.  Provide options for outsourcing or load management to achieve all  goals on-time
o   Create test procedures for specific equipment based on outline of test goals from validation team
o   Execute testing for validation programs and provide regular updates to leadership
·        Manage test facility at Normal, IL 
o   Ensure staff, facility and asset safety in all facility operations
o   Manage the testing staff and provide all day-to-day guidance.  This includes all personnel functions, staffing, as well as technical guidance
o   Oversee install of new equipment, working with vendors to ensure that it is done on-time and correctly
o   Oversee department function operating budget
o   Maintain the facility including all preventative maintenance, calibration, and repair as needed.
o   Develop facility plans including planned upgrades to equipment
o   Work with Rivian facilities team to ensure that facility continues to meet all legal regulations including building codes and other requirements
·        Serve as Ambassador of Normal,IL test facility
o   Ensure that test facility “presents well,” including maintaining a tidy environment for potential tours
o   Present the capabilities of the facility to visitors, including Rivian leadership, customers and other VIPs, and others
 
this is what you’ll need:
·        10+ years of work experience in the automotive battery industry, with 15+ preferred
·        Experience working for automotive OEMs
·        Advanced degree required in electrical or mechanical engineering or a related discipline
·        Experience with test standards from regulatory and industry standards, including UN, SAE, USCAR, VDA, and other standard tests
·        Experience with electrical, thermal, and mechanical test equipment including cyclers, thermal chambers, and shakers.
·        Track record of leading high-functioning teams in battery testing
·        Strong communication skills
·        Strong quantitative skills
