Ro is a direct-to-patient healthcare company with a mission of helping patients achieve their health goals by delivering the easiest, most effective care possible. Ro is the only company to offer nationwide telehealth, labs, and pharmacy services. This is enabled by Ro's vertically integrated platform that helps patients achieve their goals through a convenient, end-to-end healthcare experience spanning from diagnosis, to delivery of medication, to ongoing care. Since 2017, Ro has helped millions of patients, including one in every county in the United States, and in 98% of primary care deserts.
Ro has been recognized as a Fortune Best Workplace in New York and Health Care for four consecutive years (2021-2024). In 2023, Ro was also named Best Workplace for Parents for the third year in a row. In 2022, Ro was listed as a CNBC Disruptor 50.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Data Infrastructure team. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure data infrastructure powering analytics, AI applications, and data-driven products. You'll collaborate closely with data scientists, product engineers, and machine learning engineers to enhance data accessibility, governance, and efficiency, tackling complex technical challenges with pragmatism and long-term vision.
What You'll Do:
- Design, develop, and maintain data infrastructure capabilities that enable teams to effectively and securely produce, consume, and utilize data from internal systems and third-party platforms. Example projects include:
- Building a platform for deploying AI-powered and LLM-backed applications that leverage production-grade, governed data.
- Scaling analytics pipelines and data models to support a rapidly growing and increasingly complex business.
- Enabling data discovery, lineage, and quality monitoring to support trust and compliance in AI training and inference pipelines.
- Implementing change data capture (CDC) for Postgres and Kafka to support real-time data availability.
- Adopting modern table formats (e.g., Apache Iceberg) to enable incremental processing and time travel for ML features and analytical workflows.
- Operationalizing a security classification and governance framework to support responsible AI and data privacy.
- Generating synthetic datasets that replicate production schema and distributions for safe development, testing, and AI model evaluation.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or Go, with a track record of delivering reliable, well-tested systems.
- Deep knowledge of data engineering fundamentals, including warehousing, modeling, and transformation (e.g., dbt, SQL).
- Experience designing and building infrastructure that supports both batch and streaming data processing at scale.
- Experience building infrastructure that supports AI and ML workflows, such as feature generation, model inference, or vectorized search.
- Familiarity with data lakehouse formats (e.g., Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake) and the benefits they provide for AI-scale workloads.
- A strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance principles, especially in regulated or privacy-sensitive domains.
- Proficiency with cloud-native data infrastructure in AWS (e.g., EKS, S3, IAM) and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi).
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners in a fast-paced, security-conscious environment.
- Bonus: experience enabling LLM use cases through retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector search, or synthetic data generation.
We've Got You Covered:
- Full medical, dental, and vision insurance + OneMedical membership
- Healthcare and Dependent Care FSA
- 401(k) with company match
- Flexible PTO
- Wellbeing + Learning & Growth reimbursements
- Paid parental leave + Fertility benefits
- Pet insurance
- Student loan refinancing
- Virtual resources for mindfulness, counseling, and fitness
We welcome qualified candidates of all races, creeds, genders, and sexuality to apply.
