The PositionThe Multilingual Coordinator will work with all learning spaces to ensure our MLL students achieve excellence in speaking, writing, reading and listening. Additionally, the MLL Coordinator will work closely with Rocketship team members to collaborate in designing specific strategies, supports, and interventions for key components of the academic day, then execute on that compelling vision. Specialists are responsible for working with students both in and out of the classroom setting to provide additional support and intervention in speaking, listening, reading , writing, phonics and decoding, and reading comprehension. To do this effectively, the Coordinator uses formative and summative data from WIDA to create lesson plans that meet each child's needs while maintaining close communications with classroom teachers and families regarding the child's progress. The MLL Coordinator will conduct a deep-dive analysis of annual WIDA data, then report the outcomes and action steps to teachers and school leaders on professional development days. The MLL Coordinator will also collaborate with the School Leadership Team to support and provide other interventions for students based on the school wide MTSS process. The MLL coordinator will also oversee MTSS at the school. They will hold meetings with grade levels to determine academic support plans and interventions to help address any gaps.

The MLL Coordinator will work with all three Rocketship DC campuses and will report to the Associate Director of MTSS. 

The starting salary for this position starts at $82,000.

Essential Functions

    • Design and execute designated ELD lessons that instruct students, both whole group and small group, to achieve excellence in speaking, listening, writing, reading, public speaking and presentations 
    • Monitor progress towards key program, achievement, and assessment goals to ensure that students are making progress toward language proficiency and achievement of EL, through collaboration with the Analytics team.
    • Collaborate with SLT and teachers to craft Tier 1 lessons and language best practices that are reflective of student language development 
    • Create progress monitoring tools, such as individual action plans, for speaking, listening, reading and writing, then use the tools to document each student's progress on a weekly basis
    • Ensure the school is language-rich by providing and coaching staff on best practices in language development both during the school day and during professional development 
    • With a team of SLs and experts, the MLL Coordinator performs 6-week data analyses and produces 6-week action plans for individual students that correspond with Rocketship's other formative assessment cycle
    • Develop an expertise in core curriculum supports [ie Amplify Language Studio, Lexia English] 
    • Participate in Unit Planning meetings with classroom teachers to ensure Universal Design and MLL Principles are implemented into the Unit, then into daily plans
    • Administer and support the coordination of WIDA assessment and screener to all MLL Students and serve as test coordinator for the test
    • Engage in the MTSS process with the School Leadership Team to help identify students for targeted interventions
    • Hold and attend Community Meetings for families  
    • Report progress to families on a 6-8 week basis
    • Other responsibilities as assigned

Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Commitment to Rocketship's mission, vision, and goals
    • Previous experience managing and/or teaching groups of elementary-age multilingual students 
    • Track record of using data to create a vision or action plan with strong results as the outcome 
    • Evidence of content expertise in the instruction of multilingual learners 
    • Experience identifying and designing academic interventions with strong results as the outcome 
    • Ability to and experience in engaging families: writing and providing progress for students, providing resources, and training around strategies that could be used to support language development in the home
    • Basic computer skills including troubleshooting and an ability to communicate about technical difficulties
    • Experience with coaching and/or influencing adults 
    • Fluency in English, Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred
