Rocketship Education is looking for a facility “jack of all trades” who is  always striving to create safe and functional learning environments.  This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Business Operations Manager and supported by the Regional Director of Operations, National Facilities Assets on the Operations team.  The initial set of responsibilities is outlined here, but there will be significant flexibility and evolution around team roles as we work together to optimize the role.

Essential Functions

    • Support the Rocketship mission, vision and strategy for facilities and how it supports the schools and ultimately the communities that Rocketship serves
    • Campus  & Office Maintenance:
    • - Create and manage work order system and respond to request within the schools
      - Collaborate with BOM/RDO/Facilities Director on vendors for elevation of work order with contractors and vendors 
      - Solve issues identified during routine Preventative Maintenance Inspections and quarterly audits
      - Complete minor repairs relating to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and fire / life safety systems 
      - Complete specific recurring maintenance tasks across all campuses, e.g. power washing, touching up paint, etc.
      - Supports special projects as directed by the Facilities Asset Manager
      - Procure repair parts, materials, tools, and equipment within budget and approved by Facilities Asset Manager
      - Support campuses by responding to facilities emergencies directly and/or working with vendors
    • Conduct routine inspections of all campuses and offices to ensure functionality of equipment and maintenance of school campus facility standards
    • Periodic travel outside of DC may be required for training.

Qualifications

    • 5+ years of maintenance technician or handyman experience across a portfolio of properties
    • Evident passion for Rocketship’s mission, matched with a strong work ethic, and a belief that all students, including those with special needs, can achieve academic success
    • PC-based computer skills:
    • - Online work order management system (we use FMX)
      - Internet navigation
      - Experience using email and calendaring applications (Google based applications)
      - Ability to quickly adapt to new computer programs and software 
    • Past success at being a “jack of all trades” capable of doing everything from power washing to minor electrical work (changing bulbs, ballasts), minor plumbing work (snaking drains, unclogging toilets, fixing minor leaks), minor sheetrock repairs and painting.
    • Experience troubleshooting facilities issues and and escalating when necessary
    • Strong communications, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
    • Our Rocketship DC schools have a COVID vaccination mandate. All new employees must have received their first shot prior to their 1st day of work. New employees are expected to receive their full vaccination series within one month of their start date.  Failure to comply with this COVID mandate could result in termination of employment.

The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally climb ladders. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.

Compensation:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
