Position Description
The Grants Specialist is a full-time, exempt position on the Finance Team and will be responsible for managing and analyzing federal and state stimulus grant programs. The role will lead the development of budgets, required data collection, and timely submission of reports and reimbursement claims to federal and state agencies. They will also ensure all expenditures adhere to allowable use of funds per grant stipulations. The successful candidate will be proficient in Excel, comfortable working with large financial data sets with accuracy, and have a solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and federal fund regulations.

Essential Functions

    • Lead in the application processes, researching, reporting, claims submissions, and closeout of federal and state funding grants. Including but not limited to: SPED, Medicaid, MOE, Federal, State.
    • Ensure compliance of grants with accounting standards and internal policies/procedures
    • Ensure transactions are properly recorded and adhere to the grant/contract agreement, while also ensuring financial activities align with deliverable deadlines
    • Analyze grant sources along with timing and reconciliation of funding; reviewing accounting information detail for accuracy and completeness
    • Assist in developing content and procedures for timely and actionable report preparation across Finance
    • Conduct regular meetings with members of the internal finance team and representatives from state and federal agencies, as needed
    • Analyze and report monthly grant financial results; provide detailed reports and feedback for internal and external stakeholders, including accountability follow up with regional leaders, as needed 
    • Manage and coordinate yearly financial audits and state audits

Qualifications

    • Commitment and passion for Rocketship’s mission, vision, and goals
    • 2+ years of working in grants administration, accounting, or finance (Experience in grants financial management in educational or nonprofit setting, preferred)
    • At least a year of experience working with a federal and/or state funding source (e.g. ESEA, IDEA, CSP, etc).
    • Bachelor’s degree, required
    • Degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting, preferred OR with relevant experience that exemplifies required expertise (i.e. GAAP knowledge) 
    • Strong understanding of financial statements
    • Strong Microsoft Excel skills 
    • Experience with accounting systems
    • Ability to interpret complex grant funding requirements, submissions and budget projections
    • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse target audience
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to work both independently and within a team environment
    • Strong problem-solving skills
    • Location: DFW area under a hybrid model is nice to have. However, fully remote anywhere in U.S. could also be an option.
