Senior Concept Artist - (Contract)

Rooster Teeth Animation is looking for a talented and passionate contract Senior Concept Artist to join our art team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Self-motivated, but able to take feedback and criticism and properly reflect comments in work
    • Sketch, ideate, and iterate new concepts in collaboration with fellow concept artists and the Art Director
    • Develop detailed concept art for 3D designers and animators to implement into working models
    • Quickly generate multitude of ideas and sketch convincing environments, props, characters and creatures
    • Research and collect visual material to define and improve the visual style and contents of the show
    • Collaborate with different disciplines, providing guidance during the implementation of their ideas in the show
    • Create mood pieces to help explore lighting studies, color grading, and atmosphere studies
    • Provide paint overs to help smooth out any issues that come up during production
    • Mentor and guide concept artists through development and finalization of assets
    • Work closely with Art Director and Director on establishing the vision and look of shows

QUALIFICATIONS

    • Understanding of Anime and Japanese animation
    • Familiar with mecha design; think Gundam
    • Must have good time management skills
    • Professional level Photoshop experience
    • Strong use of research and reference material that supports idea generation and problem solving
    • Outstanding portfolio that demonstrates a strong artistic style and design sensibility
    • A good understanding of 2D and 3D workflows within a feature film or games environment
    • Experience creating digital paintings of cartoony and stylized aesthetics
    • Possess excellent artistic communication skills, as well as an excellent eye for detail
    • Solid knowledge and understanding of visual effects pipelines, production and implementation, as well as the ability to work well in a team
    • Thorough knowledge and examples of advanced art techniques including color space, digital paint techniques and Photoshop file management (be it file format, bit depth resolution or appropriate layering of elements)
    • Have a keen eye for lighting, color, form, and composition inform your work from ideation to creation; you’re a master of the rapid sketch, quickly generating ideas knowing that sometimes it takes a hundred good ones to get to the great one
    • Excellent understanding of human and animal anatomy, form, proportion and scale, and the ability to bend those rules in a creative and stylistic way
    • 3+ years of experience in feature film or game studio environment
