Who we are:
Want to make an impact? Join our pack and come work (and play!) with us.
We believe everyone deserves the unconditional love of a pet—and at Rover, our mission is to make it easier to experience that love. Founded in 2011, the Rover app and website connect dog and cat parents with loving pet sitters and dog walkers in neighborhoods across the US, Canada, and Europe. We empower our community of trusted pet sitters and dog walkers to run their own pet care businesses on Rover with the tools and security of a global company to back them.
Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, we work closely with our teams in Barcelona, San Antonio, Spokane, and remote locations. We’ve got a reputation for being a great place to work, having been named among the 100 Best Companies to Work For in Seattle Business Magazine and Washington’s Best Workplaces in the Puget Sound Business Journal. We're an agile, fast-growing company, and our leadership comes from some of the world's most respected tech companies.
At Rover, our furry coworkers are just as important as our human ones—and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Along with making the joys of pet parenthood more accessible, we’re committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming community of pet people—and that starts with our employees.
About the Team
Our Product Design team is a vibrant ensemble of customer advocates, product designers, and user researchers working together on a global scale. We are dedicated to enhancing connections between pet parents and pet service providers. Our team plays a crucial role in elevating the marketplace experience across web, iOS, and Android platforms, tackling complex challenges in areas like the booking experience, sitter retention, search experience, and building trust and safety in our community.
The Opportunity
Rover is looking for a Manager, Product Design to join our growing team in Barcelona. This is a unique "player-coach" role for a leader who is passionate about both hands-on design and people management. You will lead and mentor a talented team of designers focused on our critical Booking flow, while also acting as a key contributing designer on strategic projects.
You will be a customer advocate and a role model, partnering with design and product leadership in Barcelona and Seattle to ensure a consistent and high-quality user experience. This is an opportunity to directly shape the future of our product, grow a high-performing team, and embody our value of a "Relentless pursuit of inspiring outcomes".
While in the first months of this role will be a mix of hands-on work and leadership/coaching responsibilities, there is space to grow into a more strategic role, where hands-on work will be limited (if you choose so).
This is a hybrid position that has the minimum expectation to work out of our Barcelona Office in the Poblenou neighborhood two days per week on Mondays and Thursdays. For this reason, candidates must be based in Barcelona or willing to relocate.
Leadership & Management (Coach):
- Mentor & Grow: Mentor and manage a team of high-value mid-to-senior level Product Designers, providing learning opportunities, feedback, and support to help them succeed.
- Foster Empathy & Collaboration: Cultivate a culture of deep empathy for our users and for team members, championing psychological safety and an environment of transparency and collaboration. This reflects our company’s core value of "Devotion to each other as people".
- Drive Quality & Process: Uphold and elevate the standard for UI/UX design within the team, holding regular and rigorous UX reviews to ensure solutions are well-considered before development.
- Champion the Design System: Champion the active use, adherence to, and evolution of our design system (Kibble), ensuring your team contributes effectively to promote consistency and efficiency.
- Ensure transparent communication: Manage expectations, report progress and gracefully give and receive feedback from team, stakeholders and leadership
Hands-on Design & Strategy (Designer):
- Lead by Example: Act as a lead designer focused on our core Booking Flow. Transforming multifaceted user problems into simple, intuitive, and scalable solutions.
- Own the Design Vision: Own the design vision for your team's domain, influencing roadmaps by explaining the longer-term vision and breaking it down into manageable improvements.
- Deliver with Impact: Ensure the team creates engaging customer experiences from concept to high-fidelity, producing user flows, prototypes, and detailed design specs while maintaining a reliable pace of delivery. (You will be expected to know when to delegate work to your team and when to roll up your sleeves.)
- Leverage Data & Insights: Operate with a data-driven design approach, using qualitative and quantitative insights and user feedback to inform decisions, validate assumptions, and measure impact.
- Communicate with Clarity: Craft powerful presentations and narratives that explain user problems and design solutions to stakeholders and leadership, clearly articulating value, trade-offs, and risks.
What We're Looking For:
- 2+ years in a management or lead role on a design team, with a proven record of coaching and developing designers.
- 7+ years of product design experience, with a diverse portfolio of cross-platform B2C projects that showcases your product thinking, craft, and customer focus.
- Exceptional UX and visual design skills with the ability to teach others and provide expert guidance on composition, interaction patterns, and prototyping.
- A solutions-oriented mindset and the ability to operate at both a high-level conceptual view and down to detailed design deliverables.
- Excellent communication skills, with experience tailoring messages for diverse audiences and gracefully receiving feedback.
- Proficiency in design tools like Figma.
- Experience working on a global product and creating scalable designs that can flex across languages and user needs.
