The Director of Learning and Development is a key contributor to Royal Ambulance’s People team.  Reporting directly to the VP/Head of People, this role is an exciting opportunity to build and establish the strategy, design, development, and implementation for end-to-end talent management, professional development, career ladder opportunities, and organizational effectiveness processes and tools needed to support our rapidly scaling company. 

This individual must be both strategic and hands-on in leading all facets of Talent professional competency work, assessing and improving existing practices, and building to fill capability gaps. The successful candidate will be conversant with best practices in performance management, talent reviews, talent acquisition, career pathing, leadership and individual assessments, and DEI and will deploy this knowledge to keep Royal Ambulance positioned as an employer of choice and to grow our talent to meet the requirements of our fast- scaling company while enhancing our culture. 

You’ll create and implement enterprise career architectures and ensure that employees and leaders are well equipped to use them. As a thought leading organization in the EMS space, your role will be a key driver in ideating and deploying innovative and progressive EMS-focused career growth opportunities for our current and future team members. You’ll partner closely with the People Operations business partners, CEO, and executive leaders to drive innovative solutions to address the needs of our growing business.

In your first year in this role, you will lead needs assessment and strategic planning for all areas of responsibility and will select and implement strategic clinical education development, mentoring, and coaching partners who can support our employees' developmental needs.  You’ll also seek opportunities to embed metrics, and reporting routines, build-out consistent calendars and tools for our performance management, talent review, and learning processes, and will implement relevant scorecards and tracking tools.  You will initially lead the design and then implement and oversee both professional development and performance review processes.  

How you will make an impact:

    • Evaluate, implement and oversee a high-quality performance management system 
    • Own selection and deployment of learning platforms and strategies for individual contributors and managers; create and manage associated budget including L&D stipend program
    • Contribute to employment branding and attraction work in partnership with Talent Acquisition and Marketing
    • Work with VP/Head of People  to build out functional career ladders (clinical and professional) and an enterprise strategy for implementation and ongoing maintenance
    • Plan and manage internal and external mobility programs, in partnership with the business partner team
    • Coordinate enterprise workforce planning and coordinate with Talent Acquisition team 
    • Be a thought partner on the design and deployment of training to help educate all colleagues on internal roles as mentors and coaches and conceive and implement metrics for success
    • Partner and support organic ways to increase competencies to manage growth and productivity; partnering to deliver webinars and events to deepen knowledge, awareness and appreciation of change management and career opportunities as the company grows
    • Serve as an organization design guru, providing frameworks and counsel to leaders and People Operations business partners
    • Partner with Talent Acquisition and business leaders on recruitment strategies and deployment to ensure learning and development programs are equitably available for all employees

Qualifications & Required Experience

    • Required Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant field, e.g., education, psychology
    • Preferred Education: Masters degree in relevant field (Industrial/Organizational Psychology, HR) a plus
    • Required Experience: Five years of experience designing and implementing employee development programs.
    • Certifications: SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP)or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential preferred.
    • Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential preferred.
    • Demonstrated track record of building and scaling talent capabilities; hands on experience in both TA/OD/Talent Management
    • Proven track record of creating and valuable educational programs 
    • Knowledge of EMS-specific curriculum development and deployment highly preferred 
    • Strong knowledge of continuous education, clinical skill programs, and healthcare career development 
    • Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods
    • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and implement training options and alternatives
    • Strong presentation skills
    • Ability to design and implement effective training and development
