As a Senior User Experience Developer, you will be responsible for designing and creating compelling web experiences.
About the job:
Compelling user experiences engage clients and deliver ocean and atmospheric information to clients. You will be responsible for usability considerations and lead a team through the implementation of modern web experiences displaying information from ocean currents to satellite data. The experiences you create will be used by federal clients, private corporations and academic researchers. User experiences and capabilities creating them will continually be refined to meet with scientific capabilities and innovations and support an increasing user base.
Work directly with our senior backend developers, a team of scientists and subject matter experts and our product managers to define, architect, and build user experiences.
Lead projects from inception through launch. Collaborate with appropriate internal experts and stakeholders to produce mock-up’s, possibly leading workshops to refine workflows. With buy in from the internal stakeholders, progress to implementation.
Ensure proper capabilities to track user behaviors for continued refinement.
Ensure automated tests are included and work with the DevOps team to define actionable response and recovery procedures.
Influence a creative and innovative environment encouraging cross team initiative and mentor junior staff.
Expert level experience with modern Web technologies including React and Node.js.
Experience with REST API services.
5+ years building and supporting many user-facing systems.
Experience with source code control systems such a git/Github.
Strong communication and collaboration skills for team leadership
Experience with data visualization techniques
Interactive map/GIS development experience (e.g. D3, Leaflet/Mapbox, kepler.gl)
Competitive attitude while in presence of a ping pong table and/or foosball table
Interest in cutting-edge environmental, climate and data science such as tsunamis, hurricanes, storm surge and endangered marine life.
