The School of Health and Public Safety at SAIT prepares students for a dynamic career in the health care sector. We offer specialized training in diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, professional assistant programs, information management, and training for wellness professionals. Our programs are hands on, with students and instructors immersed in living classrooms and simulated training. 

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for a contract Instructor to teach physiotherapist assistant skills for both theory and lab content in our Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program.

Note: This is a casual temporary position. Looking for support on the occasional Thursday from 1-4PM for the fall semester (September-December). 

Note: SAIT, as a post-secondary institution, serves a diverse student population. Therefore, instructional duties may occasionally be required during early mornings, evenings, and weekends. If selected, specific scheduling arrangements will be discussed between you and the leader.

The Role

    • Prepare and deliver lectures and lab demonstrations to students enrolled in the program and potentially to other programs in the department and/or assist other instructors in program delivery
    • Provide high quality education for students
    • Ensure equipment is set up and put away for each class/lab
    • Prepare additional study and lab materials for learners
    • Evaluate student progress and achievement through assignments, exams and lab competencies
    • Provide ongoing support, guidance and advice to learners
    • Update course outlines and learning material as required
    • Participate in curriculum and program reviews
    • Maintain close contact with relevant industry sectors 
    • Perform related duties as assigned to meet the emerging needs of SAIT and its students
    • Promote and support SAIT Polytechnic’s mission statements, strategic and academic plans
    • Remain current in field

Qualifications & Experience

    • Physiotherapist degree
    • Minimum 5 years of experience working as an PT in a clinical setting
    • Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta
    • Preference to candidates with previous teaching experience
    • Preference to candidates with experience working with therapist assistants 
    • Preference given to candidates with flexible schedules to accommodate scheduling 
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office
