The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists to join the ARIS team in the role of Research Assistant which would support the Green Building Technology Access Centre (GBTAC), CERCUTS (Centre for Energy Research and Clean Unconventional Technology Solutions), and CIRUS (Centre for Innovation and Research in Unmanned Systems).
Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous Relations and Special Projects, this position will work closely with the Principal Investigators of Smart Energy Management Systems, Building and Material Science, and Environment. This position will also offer the opportunity to work with the CERCUTS and CIRUS applied research teams. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, adaptable, resourceful and interested in sustainable development. Valuable traits include a keen eye for detail, proficiency in problem solving, exceptional organizational and communication skills, and fluency with Microsoft Office. Past experience with team support, project coordination, engagement with Indigenous communities is advantageous.

The Role
- Project Work, Subject Matter Expertise
- Support performance monitoring activities and data analysis, technical support and report writing related to GBTAC and CERCUTS research themes including building energy systems design, building integrated renewable energy, smart building management, net zero energy, and building science and materials.
- Participate in project meetings between community and technical stakeholders, support reporting on funded activities to granting agencies, support community stakeholders with follow up on project activities including planning and participating in community engagement activities.
- Support and write content as necessary for Federal and Provincial grant fund applications.
- Support of SAIT departments and other team members on an ongoing and as needed basis
- Incorporate Two-Eyed Seeing approaches to applied research that integrate Indigenous community needs, interests, and perspectives with an understanding of technical solutions and how solutions could be best applied in a community context.
- Collaborate with the whole project team, contributing to the entire project lifecycle. Interest in project management with multi-disciplinary teams, with a focus on clean energy and energy efficiency is an asset.
- Organize and maintain schedule and see that assigned deadlines are met.
- Report updates verbally and in written form to management.
- Complete any necessary administrative tasks.
- Demonstrate commitment to clients' needs and confidentiality continuously.
- Liaise with ARIS Research and SAIT schools to build and maintain collaboration.
- Communicate research success from ongoing or completed projects.
- Collaborate with CIRUS pilots and analysts.
- Participate in meetings between CIRUS pilots and analysts, with a focus on learning RPAS project lifecycle.
- Assist with the coordination between the Drone Training Centre and CIRUS.
- Education and Networking
- Participate in seminars and other organized scientific and technology discussions.
- Pursue other activities that maintain and advance professional growth. These activities may include conference presentations, contributing to educational programs, and serving on committees.
- Networking and engagement activities including supporting tours of the GBTAC, CERCUTS, and CIRUS facilities, presentations and associated preparation, and working with Indigenous communities.
Qualifications
- Minimum Required
- Alberta High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience or familiarity with project management and/or technical background.
- Preferred
- Diploma, certificate and/or degree from a recognized university or technical institute in a relevant field (experience in all research areas is not required)
Working Conditions
- Majority of working time spent working at desk or attending meetings
- Some time spent working in labs
- Occasional exposure to loud noises
- Occasional use of power tools (if applicable)
- Occasional lifting of objects weighing more than 50 lbs (with assistance)
- Occasional travel to remote locations in Alberta
- Project work at client facilities and/or project sites

Hourly Rate: $19.62- $22.79
