The Opportunity

The Reg Erhardt Library facilitates excellence in teaching, research, and learning through the provision of authoritative information resources and community-driven programs. By providing equitable access to print and digital collections, innovative technology, and learner-focused spaces, the Library creates an inclusive environment which supports creative inquiry at SAIT.
 
Reporting to the Collection Development Librarian, the e-Resources and Open Scholarship Technician is a member of the Collections and Technical Services Library team, as part of the Student Services department. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the library’s e-resources acquisitions, license agreements, and relationships with vendors. The e-Resources and Open Scholarship Technician will also be responsible for providing reference assistance for the Library’s Open Education initiatives and services, and other duties as they are assigned. This position would appeal to a library technician that requires minimal supervision, enjoys supporting students with their information needs, has a growth mindset, and has strong interpersonal, technical and analytical skills.

The Role

    • e-Resources Acquisitions and Maintenance
    • Assist with the collection maintenance by processing and administering licenses for e-resources.
    • Work directly with vendors and library consortiums for e-resource renewals and costing requests as needed by the Collection Development Librarian.
    • Work directly with the SAIT Purchasing and Accounts Payable departments to complete purchasing procedures and documentation requirements as part of the acquisitions process.
    • Work directly with the ITS Security team to complete third party security risk assessments and any other system security requirements as needed.
    • Keep the Coordinator of Technical Services and the Collection Development Librarian informed in a timely manner on any security risk assessments issues.
    • Work in collaboration with other library staff and e-resource providers to implement access to e-resource collections.
    • Work directly with e-resource providers, SAIT’s ITS teams, and other library staff to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as well as setting up new e-resource as needed.
    • Acting backup as an Alma Administrator as needed.
    • Open Education Reference
    • Assist with Open Educational Resources reference for faculty and students under the direction of the Open Educational Resources Librarian.
    • Assist with other Open Education initiatives, such as Open Education week, under the direction of the Open Educational Resources Librarian.
    • Administer the library’s City of Calgary spatial data collection and provide reference and retrieval support to students and faculty.
    • Administer access requests to the Community Data Program for students and faculty.   
    • Information Desk
    • Provide library circulation, and user assistance services to patrons at the information desk and remotely.
    • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

    • Minimum
    • A Library Information Technology diploma, or a combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered.
    • At least 3 years of experience working in a library, preferably academic.
    • Preferred
    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • Familiarity with library systems, information sources, library database licenses and the importance of access for students and staff.
    • Experience with e-resources acquisitions, access, and maintenance.
    • Experience with e-resources license agreements and terms of use.
    • Familiarity with copyright and licensing terms of use, including the ability to understand key legal terminology in order to check permissions.
    • Experience with troubleshooting e-resources access issues.
    • Knowledge of or a strong interest in open education and open access
    • Knowledge of or a strong interest in geospatial data

    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to initiate and maintain relationships with vendors and SAIT departments.
    • Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
    • Technical aptitude for learning and supporting new systems and software, including the development and testing of customizations, workflows, automated processes, and interoperability.
    • Ability to engage in promotion and community outreach.
    • Demonstrated strong technical acumen, problem-solving skills and ability to manage competing priorities and short deadlines.

Salary Range: $50,009.05 - $63,618.75
