Academic Services is focused on supporting SAIT’s schools and departments in their pursuit of SAIT’s strategic priorities. The Opportunity
We are currently hiring casual instructors to teach Communication and Liberal Arts Studies courses starting in Fall 2025.
Subject matter domains include:
• Communication and presentation skills
• Business and technical writing
• Mixed research methods
Reporting to the Academic Chair, Communication and Liberal Arts Studies, you have a passion for teaching diverse students, thrive on sharing knowledge, and enjoy coaching students to succeed and think critically. You will be responsible for teaching communication and interpersonal skills through an experiential (task-based) learning lens.
Most courses are scheduled to run as daytime offerings and can be scheduled Monday to Friday between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. The courses are taught in-person at SAIT’s main campus in Calgary. Previous teaching experience at SAIT would be an asset.
Note: SAIT, as a post-secondary institution, serves a diverse student population. Therefore, instructional duties may occasionally be required during early mornings, evenings, and weekends. If selected, specific scheduling arrangements will be discussed between you and the leader.
The Role
- Instruct Communication and Liberal Arts Studies courses.
- Prepare in-class and study materials for learners.
- Evaluate student progress and achievement providing timely, formative feedback.
- Provide ongoing support, guidance and advice to learners.
- Stay abreast of emerging pedagogical issues and educational technologies.
- Attend department meetings and SAIT’s instructor training program.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master's Degree or higher in Communication Studies, English, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years’ post-secondary teaching experience in a relevant discipline.
- Graduate education and/or work experience in adult education would be an asset.
- Previous teaching experience at SAIT would be an asset/preferred.
- Subject-matter expertise in both written and verbal communication, presentations, teamwork, job search packages, networking, interpersonal skills, and research methods.
- Good computer skills and experience teaching technology-enhanced courses are required.
- Proficiency with learning management systems, specifically D2L/Brightspace.
- Expertise in a variety of teaching modalities including face-to-face, online, blended.
- Ability to collaborate with Academic Chairs and faculty across SAIT.
- Willingness to collaborate with colleagues on the Communication and Liberal Arts Studies team.
