The Opportunity

The faculty member professionally facilitates the learning process of the students and supports students in achieving established learning outcomes to the maximum of their potential.  The faculty member makes use of any and all available resources, methods, techniques and strategies to ensure student success.  The faculty member is expected to work collaboratively with colleagues to create a student-centered learning environment which is pedagogically sound, technically supported and innovative in nature. The specific workload of the faculty member is determined by the Chair or designee after considering the success factors of the school, program and faculty member.

The Clinical Support Services Portfolio within the School of Health & Public Safety has a need for an energetic and resourceful individual with great organizational skills to provide instruction in the Medical Laboratory Technology and Medical Laboratory Assistant programs. We are currently looking for an experienced registered Medical Laboratory Technologist for a casual position. The position will be located on the SAIT main campus on 16th Avenue and report to the Academic Chair of Clinical Support Services. Preference will be given to a candidate with previous teaching experience in the classroom, clinical expertise, and who is enthusiastic about the theoretical and clinical training of Medical Laboratory Technology or Assistant students. The Role

    • Facilitate and supervise students’ learning in classes, laboratories, simulation, and or practicum through effective action-based lessons, activities and assessments
    • Maintain currency and relevance of course material, laboratory manuals and other teaching resources with current developments in his/her/their subject matter
    • Provide ongoing support, guidance and feedback to students in relation to their progress, achievement, professional standards and general welfare
    • Manage class and laboratory environments to ensure a safe, healthy and positive student learning experience
    • Maintain records for the purposes of grading and tracking attendance in all classes
    • Prepare laboratory preps and supply lists for Educational Technologists
    • Evaluate and maintain student progress and retention through assessment of evaluations
    • Promote professionalism and coach students
    • Adhere to safety legislation and SAIT Policies and Procedures
    • Participate in program, portfolio, School or SAIT meetings
    • Participate in institutional activities that support students in building their competitiveness, resiliency and citizenship
    • Participate in course development, program reviews and quality assurance activities
    • Engage, as appropriate, in scholarly activity, applied research and other projects
    • Engage, as relevant, in professional and career development activities
    • Collaborate with other faculty members and institutional partners to advance teaching methodology and educational technology, and to support student success
    • Leverage experience and areas of passion to help shape the future of learning at SAIT
    • Contribute to advancing the mission and vision of SAIT as being a global leader in applied education
    • Create new and maintain existing practicum partner relationships
    • Continue to maintain currency in profession and continue to develop as an faculty member

Qualifications & Experience

    • Medical Laboratory Technologist diploma from an accredited program
    • 2-3 years of teaching experience, or preceptor mentoring
    • Eligible to register or registered member with the CMLTA and CSMLS
