Sana’s vision is to make healthcare easy.

All of us can agree healthcare is simply too hard in the US. And our members feel that pain day in and day out. We aim to create an experience that simply feels easy when you need to access our healthcare system. If you need something, you know where to go to get it with care that is a click (or as few clicks as possible!) away.

What’s beautiful about a vision oriented toward “easy” is how it imparts a singular feeling. We instinctively know as humans when something is easy versus hard, even if we can’t explain why. We fight as a company to make an easy pathway available to all our members at every stage of their healthcare journey. If you feel passionate about delivering better healthcare to small businesses through a seamless care experience and affordable benefits, join us!

We’re looking for a Senior Medical Assistant to support Sana’s vision of making healthcare easy through exceptional patient care coordination and clinical support. The majority of the role (80-90%) focuses on Medical Assistant duties — helping patients access care quickly and seamlessly, assisting providers, and ensuring efficient clinical and operational workflows for the Sana Care team. A smaller portion of the role (10-20%) is project and/or program focused, with each Senior Medical Assistant owning a project, program, or vertical within Sana Care. Example projects/programs include Chronic Care Management and Team Operations Enablement.

This is a hands-on position where no two days look the same. If you’re a strong communicator with sharp attention to detail, and you love balancing remote patient care with behind-the-scenes operations, let’s talk!

What you will do:

    • Maintain a 9am-5pm CT schedule and be willing to flex to the needs of the business
    • Partner with Sana’s primary care providers to streamline medication requests, pharmacy coordination, prior authorizations, and referrals so they can focus on patient care.
    • Prep and maintain accurate patient charts, confirm eligibility, and ensure every patient is matched with the right provider.
    • Manage diagnostic test orders, coordinate labs, and securely transfer results between systems while protecting PHI at every step.
    • Coordinate Durable Medical Equipment (DME) orders to deliver the right tools at the lowest cost.
    • Track preventive screenings and lab results to keep chronic care management programs proactive, not reactive.
    • Handle inbound calls with care, provide clear answers, and guide patients to the right level of care.
    • Collaborate with Care Navigation, Customer Support, Product, and Engineering to enhance the patient experience and improve the care platform.
    • Uphold HIPAA standards, maintain confidentiality, and help refine workflows to keep care safe and efficient.
    • Foster a positive, team-driven environment that boosts engagement, supports providers, and elevates patient satisfaction.

About you:

    • 5+ years as a Medical Assistant, preferably in a virtual or telehealth setting. High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred. Medical Assistant Certification is a plus.
    • Knowledge of patient care procedures, medical terminology, healthcare operations, EMR systems, and telehealth workflows.
    • Proven ability to streamline medication requests, including pharmacy coordination and prior authorizations; manage patient referrals and specialty care coordination; and order/track diagnostic tests, including lab add-ons and secure result transfers.
    • Strong understanding of HIPAA compliance with a commitment to safeguarding patient confidentiality.
    •  Passion for delivering exceptional patient experiences through empathy, clarity, and responsiveness.
    • Highly organized and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and workflows efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
    • Resourceful and proactive in resolving challenges and supporting provider needs.
    • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; excels in working with clinical teams and cross-functional departments.
    • Comfortable shifting between patient care responsibilities and operational tasks to support both providers and patients effectively.

Benefits:

    • Stock options in rapidly scaling startup
    • Flexible vacation
    • Medical, dental, and vision Insurance
    • 401(k) and HSA plans
    • Parental leave
    • Remote worker stipend
    • Opportunity for career growth
    • Dynamic start-up environment
