Saronic Special Programs is a small pathfinding team chartered to rapidly prototype new ideas. Special Programs is responsible for generating new ideas, building and testing physical prototypes, and validating future products, which continue Saronic’s mission to redefine maritime superiority. 
 
Job Overview 
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer responsible for designing, building, and testing electrical systems on a variety of complex systems, including autonomous platforms and edge devices. You will work on a diverse range of technical challenges, including power management and distribution, embedded electronics, and integrating sensors, radios, actuators, and other components. You will collaborate with a small group of like-minded developers to solve robust problems with limited resources and time. You will explore the frontier of maritime technology. 

Responsibilities

    • Design and integrate electrical systems, including power distribution, motor controllers, batteries, embedded systems, and sensors 
    • Develop low- and high-voltage electrical architectures for rapid prototypes 
    • Develop wiring diagrams, schematics, and harnesses using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) 
    • Select and evaluate electrical components for reliability in harsh marine environments 
    • Work with vendors and manufacturing partners to source and assemble electrical components 
    • Support and participate in regular field testing and/or Government demonstrations 

Qualifications

    • Experience building complex systems, including autonomous platforms and edge devices, with a focus on designing and supporting electrical systems 
    • Experience in marine, aerospace, robotics, or automotive hardware development is a plus 
    • Proficiency in power systems engineering 
    • Comfort working with embedded systems and microcontrollers 
    • Familiarity with high-voltage or high-current systems 
    • Familiarity with programming languages and software development practices is a plus 
    • Knowledge of EMI/EMC best practices and environmental ruggedization 
    • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and embedded debugging 
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment 
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams 
    • Comfort operating with high uncertainty, minimal resources, compressed timelines, and aggressive goals and schedules

Physical Demands

    • Lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g., office supplies, packages).
