The controller for private equity is a newly created position, and the individual selected will have a unique opportunity to contribute to our firm’s growth by providing dedicated support to our private equity investment team.  The controller will report to our CFO and work with managing partners, principals, and other investment team members to lead the firm’s private equity financial operations.  The ideal candidate will have the necessary business acumen to proactively design scalable processes and drive strategic initiatives and will champion our firm’s culture by exemplifying our values and guiding principles, which are:

ABOUT SATORI CAPITAL
Satori Capital is a Texas-based multi-strategy investment firm founded upon the principles of conscious capitalism.  Satori has a private equity business unit based in Dallas and an alternatives investment platform, Satori Alpha, based in Fort Worth. 

Satori’s private equity business partners with leadership teams of companies with $5 million to $25 million of EBITDA that operate with a long-term perspective, commit to their mission or purpose, and create value for all stakeholders.  Satori Alpha creates and manages customized portfolios designed to meet the unique objectives of institutions, family offices, and sophisticated private investors.  The firm currently manages approximately $1 billion of committed capital, with approximately $390 million dedicated to private equity. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manage and review accounting, financial reporting, fund administration, partnership allocations, waterfall calculations, and tax considerations for the private equity funds, management company, and related general partner entities
    • Coordinate and review tax returns, K-1s, and investor tax communications for private equity
    • Serve as a key contact for third-party service providers for private equity (fund administrator, auditors, tax preparers, valuation service providers, bank relationships, compliance, etc.)
    • Provide timely investor support to the Investor Experience team for private equity (re: financial statements, status of portfolio companies, tax questions, capital calls, distributions, investment opt-in notices)
    • Serve as a knowledge source for partnership agreement requirements for each private equity investment fund
    • Handle cash management for the private equity entities, including ensuring expense allocations between the funds, GPs, and management companies are appropriate
    • Manage administration of the private equity carried interest program for the Satori team and general partners, which involves maintaining vesting schedules, grant documentation, distribution processing, and tax considerations
    • Support the CFO and FP&A analyst on firm budgeting/forecasting, fund performance reporting, and investment closings
    • Support the Satori Alpha business unit controller as needed; providing back-up on cash movements/wires, assisting in streamlining processes and ensuring consistency between the different businesses, and sharing best practices between the businesses
    • Serve as an active participant and share big ideas in firm-wide discussions
    • Promote and demonstrate “living our values” in accordance with the firm’s values and guiding principles

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance or accounting, required
    • CPA required
    • At least 10+ years of experience consistent with this type of position in a similar environment, preferably with a private equity firm
    • Exposure to partnership accounting and tax compliance is preferred
    • Experience working in the details while also being responsible for high-level outcomes
