Over the last several months, I have been acting as the sole AE here at Scholars so opening up this role is exciting to me for a lot of reasons. Our sales team currently consists of myself and one SDR, so you’ll be joining us on the ground floor. It’s an exciting opportunity to join with minimal restrictions on territories!
We help companies create engaging candidate journeys in order to predict and prevent early-career turnover.
We are currently closing a $3.25M seed round. However, our story dates back to April 2017, when we (Evan, Parker, and Ben) started our first company together. The three of us were undergrads at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, when we started our first business, QuikFix. QuikFix was a service that matched local homeowners with college students to complete odd jobs and chores for them. This is where our passion for the early-career recruiting industry began.
Over the next couple of years, the business grew from a website and a GroupMe to a mobile app used by thousands of homeowners and students across Memphis and Nashville.
During the end of the QuikFix days, we began getting requests from businesses asking to be matched with students for internships rather than manual labor. This was the first iteration (of many) of what is now Scholars. Our platform helps companies create personalized candidate experiences and collect insights to predict and prevent early-career turnover. Scholars is used by companies like DICK’s Sporting Goods, CDW, and GoPuff, to name a few.
We launched this platform in July of 2021 and have grown rapidly over the last eight months: acquiring customers, raising a seed round, and now hiring great people who want to grow this business with us.
That’s where you come in…
You’ll be responsible for everything that you’d expect as an AE; most importantly growing revenue and the customer base. However, we believe that most job responsibilities can be learned. The person we’re looking for is someone who…
- isn’t afraid to ask questions, but doesn’t need to be told what to do.
- is willing to do whatever it takes to reach their goals –– whether it comes to closing a deal, prospecting, etc.
- takes it upon themselves to learn new skills (i.e. forecasting, new techniques, etc.) and learns them relatively quickly.
- asks great questions and more importantly listens to people’s answers
- wants to be seen as an expert in the industry they work in
- gets excited about change and tries new things. We’re moving fast and selling a new product, so things like messaging can change often.
One formality, we are looking for someone who has successfully managed a sales process before from prospecting to closing deals.
The Interview Process
We know making a career move like this is a big deal––we don’t want you to rush into something you’re not ready for. Our interview process is as much about getting to know you and your work habits as it is about what you’ve done in the past. The process is four steps and will happen like this:
1. A 45-minute intro call to meet each other and give you a demo of the product
2. A more technical conversation with one of our investors
3. A call with one of the other co-founders
4. Two or three reference checks
I’ll be your main point of contact throughout the process to answer any questions and help you best prepare. If you don’t get the job, we’ll let you know why!
Your First Two Months at Scholars
We’ll spend the first two months in constant conversation about the industry and the product. You’ll also chat consistently with the other co-founders and our customer success manager to learn firsthand what our existing customers are saying and how they use the platform. During this time, you’ll also be working on growing your initial book of business.
Sales Tools and Technology
We don’t require previous experience using any of our existing tools (although it’s certainly helpful 😀). Currently, we use ZoomInfo, LinkedIn Sales Nav, HubSpot, and Gong.
