At Scribd (pronounced “scribbed”), our mission is to spark human curiosity. Join our team as we create a world of stories and knowledge, democratize the exchange of ideas and information, and empower collective expertise through our three products: Everand, Scribd, and Slideshare.

We support a culture where our employees can be real and be bold; where we debate and commit as we embrace plot twists; and where every employee is empowered to take action as we prioritize the customer.

Our flexible work benefit - Scribd Flex - enables employees, in partnership with their manager, to choose the daily work-style that best suits their individual needs. As an organization, we prioritize collaboration and intentional in-person moments to build culture and connection. For this reason, occasional in-person attendance is required for all Scribd employees, regardless of their location.

About the team and the role

The Discovery and Content Pillars are dedicated to helping millions of people discover, engage with, and consume content across our extensive Everand, Scribd, and SlideShare libraries. As a Senior Product Designer, you will be at the forefront of innovation in the digital content space, using the power of generative AI to tailor and enhance the user experience. This role offers a blend of creative freedom and technical challenges, allowing you to craft solutions that bridge user needs with technological possibilities.

We pride ourselves on an inclusive culture, where each team member is encouraged to contribute ideas and take initiative. Collaborating closely with experts in machine learning, data analytics, product management, and engineering, you will help lead the charge in creating smarter experiences that delight and inspire our users.

This role is designed for those who are not only passionate about design but also about the impact of their work on a global scale.

What we’re looking for

    • Someone with experience solving complex problems related to digital content, search, recommendations, and generative AI.
    • Someone who stays on top of the latest generative AI news and is excited to solve complex problems at the intersection of design and technology.
    • Someone who’s excited to own key initiatives and partner with cross-functional peers to define a strategic roadmap.
    • Someone who loves crafting beautifully designed solutions based on insights from real people.
    • Someone with a mastery of empathy and user experience intuition, as well as a passion for visual polish.
    • Someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, working seamlessly with other designers and cross-functional partners to drive impactful results.

What You’ll Do

    • Help shape the future of our content and discovery experiences, working on key features like search, onboarding, and recommendations across Everand, Scribd, and SlideShare. Your work will impact millions daily, making it easy for users to find and enjoy our content.
    • Partner with design leads, product, data analytics, user research, machine learning and frontend engineers, and customer support to identify requirements, use cases, user problems and opportunities.
    • Own end-to-end design projects from brief, research, and concept exploration through prototyping, visual design details, and stewardship through development.
    • Use data collected from research, user testing and market evaluation to create truly user-centered designs.
    • Pair with our research department to plan and conduct user research, and test prototypes to understand user needs and the resonance of our product — synthesizing the results to inspire empathy and bring clarity to the broader team.
    • Visualize and communicate complex design solutions across use cases by creating process flows, wireframes, animated prototypes, and high fidelity designs.
    • Develop and maintain detailed design documentation & specifications for your work.
    • Work closely with engineers, stakeholders, and partners during build phases to ensure that the user experience is polished and as intended.
    • Regularly present your work to peers, stakeholders, and senior leaders for feedback.

Who You Are

    • You have 8+ years of experience as a product designer with demonstrable proficiency owning the design process from early stage ideation through high fidelity design to product ship.
    • You are comfortable working closely with designers, product managers, engineers, researchers, and data scientists. You can synthesize and incorporate their inputs and points of view in your work.
    • You are someone who is excited by the challenge of iterating on and improving the user experience across three brands, and using emerging technologies to innovate on familiar patterns.
    • You’re a strong communicator who has the ability to explain complex ideas clearly and persuasively, and present your work in a way that energizes and creates shared ownership for both leaders and peers. You also have the skills to mentor those around you to deliver high quality work.
    • You are fluent in UX, visual and interactive design best practices and have a strong knowledge of usability fundamentals and methodologies.
    • You maintain a high bar for design quality and coherence, even when scaling solutions to meet broad user needs. Your portfolio showcases a keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering clear, engaging user experiences.
    • You are comfortable with ambiguity, you thrive in fast-paced environments that require a growth mindset and adaptive problem-solving skills.
    • You inspire and uplift your team, advocating for user-centric principles and fostering a collaborative, inclusive work environment.
