If you're passionate about organic food, supporting local farmers, and building people-first workplaces — we want to meet you.
We’re looking for a Human Resources Manager to lead HR operations across our three grocery store locations. This is a hands-on role in a family-run business, where the pace is fast, communication is direct, and resilience is essential. You'll need thick skin, emotional intelligence, and a problem-solving mindset to succeed — but you’ll also be part of a tight-knit team that’s deeply committed to community and sustainability.

What You'll Be Doing Day to Day

    • As our Human Resources Manager, you’ll oversee HR strategy and execution for a team of ~500 employees. You'll be a trusted partner to leadership, a resource for team members, and a steward of our people-first values.

    • Key Responsibilities:
    • People & Culture
    • Foster a positive workplace culture rooted in accountability, inclusion, and respect.
    • Provide day-to-day support to managers and employees on HR policies, performance issues, and employee relations.
    • Guide consistent implementation of company policies across locations.

    • Compliance & Administration
    • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal employment laws.
    • Maintain and update employee handbook and safety programs (e.g., IIPP).
    • Manage employee leaves, workers’ compensation, and benefits administration (health, 401k, COBRA, etc.).

    • Training & Development
    • Oversee onboarding, training programs, and performance management processes.
    • Identify training needs and support career development across the organization.

    • Payroll & HR Systems
    • Coordinate with payroll providers and ensure accurate payroll processing.
    • Manage HRIS and digital onboarding systems (ADP Workforce Now).
    • Track personnel files, HR metrics, and compliance documentation.

    • Travel
    • This role requires regular weekly travel between our three store locations, so you should enjoy being on the ground, connecting with Managers, teams, and staying close to daily operations.

Who You Are

    • Required Qualifications:
    • PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent HR certification.
    • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including employee relations and team management.
    • Strong working knowledge of California labor law.
    • Comfortable working in a family-owned business with a fast-moving, entrepreneurial culture.
    • Able to handle sensitive situations with discretion, empathy, and confidence.
    • Highly organized, proactive, and adaptable.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
    • Able to travel to three grocery store locations each week.

    • Preferred:
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish – strongly preferred.
    • Experience in grocery, retail, food service, or hospitality industries.
    • Familiarity with ADP, Workday, or similar HR/payroll platforms.
    • Experience with DocuSign, SharePoint, and digital document management tools.
